I am at the D.M.V.

I didn't bring my social security card but I don't think I'll need it. It's just a license renewal.

No communal writing implements. Blue ballpoint Bics are available at the snack bar at $0.50 a pop.

little pomegranate, king of the lily (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:27 (fifteen years ago)

This D.M.V. branch occupies a building that previously housed a department store; it's still reflected in the floorplan of the place. People sit and wait on long oak benches that could be properly called pews. Drop ceilings, flouredcent lighting.

little pomegranate, king of the lily (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:39 (fifteen years ago)

I am no longer at the D.M.V.

Thank you for your time.

little pomegranate, king of the lily (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:49 (fifteen years ago)

Last time I was at a DMV was the morning after working a graveyard, to get my drivers license (finally). It was scary. I hope all goes well for u.

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:50 (fifteen years ago)

Right then (xp)

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:51 (fifteen years ago)

I still need to take my exam for my license. :-(((((( I haven't as I haven't properly learned to parallel park.

Unregistered Googler (stevienixed), Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:40 (fifteen years ago)

24 minutes is excellent DMV throughput!

suddenly, everything was dark and smelly (HI DERE), Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:41 (fifteen years ago)

It was slightly longer, maybe 40 minutes or so. If I had to get a new registration it probably would have taken hours.

little pomegranate, king of the lily (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

I had to renew my license recently and was in and out of the DMV within 5 minutes, no joke! (Chicagoans: Thompson Center, 9 AM on a weekday, you won't regret it.)

max readroom (jaymc), Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

stevie, I didn't practice my parallel parking at all and nailed it. You can do it!

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:46 (fifteen years ago)

No wait I forgot to use my blinker when I pulled out. The parking itself though was ice.

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:47 (fifteen years ago)

we have the long wooden pew benches at my DMV too i think! or maybe that's just in a movie i've seen

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:48 (fifteen years ago)

the DMV near atlantic center? def. has pews.

stevie, I didn't practice my parallel parking at all and nailed it. You can do it!

IF you can't parallel park in ONE GO, you FAIL here. I guess it's all to do with parallel parking being essential in Belgium. I can drive on my own (temp license) and this morning I had to drive to a street parallel (hah!) to the one I needed cause I doubt I could have parallel parked in the VERY WIDE spot in front of the house. hahahaha

Unregistered Googler (stevienixed), Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:57 (fifteen years ago)

Ohhhh. You should practice then.

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

Our DMV looks like a hotel lobby with a mezzanine level and couches arranged in a circle around a tree and shit. There's a guy who works there that looks just like Eddie Murphy.

There's another DMV closer to the house that's in a strip mall. Last time I went down there, I wound up selling my truck to the woman behind the counter.

My DMV plays Fox News on their TV.

Other than that, my past few visits have quick and easy. Even the complicated transactions!

our DMV got in the news for selling driver's license to illegal immigrants.

oooohhh, the Apex!!! I think I remember someone in my family telling me that was the new DMV. Probably my aunt; my cousins are learning to drive. Beware, citizens of warwick!

yeah, pawtucket is DMV master control center of RI now

eight months pass...

Original or certified copy of a birth certificate (birth registration notices are NOT acceptable) filed with a State Office of Vital Statistics (OVS) or equivalent agency in the applicant’s state of birth (U.S. or territorial)*;

does that mean a "certificate of birth registration" from NY is not acceptable? that's all i have :(
does anyone born in NY have anything called a "birth certificate"?

harbl, Saturday, 27 March 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)

i think i have a photocopy of mine that i use when i need it for stuff like this? if your thing says "certificate" on it you should be good?

51ocki (k3vin k.), Saturday, 27 March 2010 00:50 (fifteen years ago)

lolcanada but

A birth registration contains information about a newborn and is used to create his or her permanent identity record. The birth registration form cannot itself be used as proof of identity or to request documents such as Passports or Ontario Health Cards. Information found on the birth registration is used to create a birth certificate.

broa super (unregistered), Saturday, 27 March 2010 00:58 (fifteen years ago)

lol unreg, exactly. yeah i guess a "notice" would be different from a "certificate" so i'm good. i just get worried dumb public servants will *rolleyes* at me

harbl, Saturday, 27 March 2010 01:04 (fifteen years ago)

as far as I know (based on following the birther controversy lol, and googling stuff just now), you really only need to pull out original/certified copy (i.e. "long form") if you're applying for a passport or immigrating somewhere. otherwise your "certificate of birth registration" (i.e. "short form") should serve you just fine. but don't necc. take my word for it.

broa super (unregistered), Saturday, 27 March 2010 01:21 (fifteen years ago)

the back of my certificate of birth registration says my original "birth certificate" is on file at nys dept of health. i think i'll be ok with this, i just never thought about it.

harbl, Saturday, 27 March 2010 01:35 (fifteen years ago)

what if u were never actually born think abt it o_o

51ocki (k3vin k.), Saturday, 27 March 2010 02:38 (fifteen years ago)

certificate of birth registration not acceptable!

harbl, Saturday, 27 March 2010 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

it is a little like i was never born

Yeah, I do. You should be able to get a copy.

harbl, Sunday, 28 March 2010 12:28 (fifteen years ago)

two months pass...

i got mine at the town clerk's office for $10 instead of going to nys dept of health. today i am going to try again. i am worried because i have lived here over a year now but you're supposed to get a license within 60 days of moving. if they find me out i will say i was considering moving back so i wasn't a "resident." also it's hard to have proof of address when all your billing is electronic :(

harbl, Monday, 7 June 2010 13:18 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think they'll give you a hard time about it. at the dmv they always just seem concerned about paperwork and fees, not whether you're technically in violation of something.

horseshoe, Monday, 7 June 2010 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think i can go now because i can't find my social security card :(
