voted rhabdomancy because water divination is so cool, especially when you visit marshy ground

thank you, flipper, for nickelback (country matters), Thursday, 16 July 2009 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

I just want to know how much of the stomach ventriloquism was the stomach saying, "I'm hungry."

well I'm married to a limping, crescent-shaped abortion (sarahel), Thursday, 16 July 2009 21:53 (fifteen years ago)

I often watch birds in flight and wonder what they might augur.

If you've ever used ILX random threads, you clearly believe in cybermancy! ;-)

Torn between palmistry and tarot, but, erm, I'm a former goth chick, what do you expect?

I sucked at applying liquid eyeliner ... I had a lot of deficiencies in the goth chick department.

Now, divination by patterns in one's caked on mascara, is that gothomancy?

Voted for scrying in the end, since I possess a scrying mirror (in the "the key to joy is disobedience" Coil live box). Haven't used it yet, might give it a go because of this thread. Sorry if the world ends one of these days!

One method of scrying using a crystal ball involves a self-induced trance. Initially, the medium serves as a focus for the attention, removing unwanted thoughts from the mind in the same way as a mantra. Once this stage is achieved, the scryer begins a free association with the perceived images suggested. The technique of deliberately looking for and declaring these initial images aloud, however trivial or irrelevant they may seem to the conscious mind, is done with the intent of deepening the trance state, wherein the scryer hears their own disassociated voice affirming what is seen within the concentrated state in a kind of feedback loop. This process culminates in the achievement of a final and desired end stage in which rich visual images and dramatic stories seem to be projected within the medium itself, or directly within the mind's eye of the scryer, like an inner movie. This overall process reputedly allows the scryer to "see" relevant events or images within the chosen medium.

If the Osmonds had experimented with rap, would they have written a line like "looking at peepstones in an upside-sown hat"?

“Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light; and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing. One character at a time would appear, and under it was the interpretation in English. Brother Joseph would read off the English to Oliver Cowdery, who was his principal scribe, and when it was written down and repeated to Brother Joseph to see if it was correct, then it would disappear, and another character with the interpretation would appear. ” (David Whitmer, An Address to All Believers in Christ, Richmond, Mo.: n.p., 1887, p. 12.)

I have a scary Crowley tarot set, the cards are quite large and slippery and thus difficult to handle/shuffle, they have quite an intimidating feel to them. But the artwork is incredible.

I looked into my scrying mirror and saw the reflection of my eye. Eye = i , so I predict that I Ching is going to win. (That'll be 80 dollars please.)
