the week that Best Week Ever went on hiatus and The Soup launched its 3rd spinoff I was like "yes! the right side won!"

And you gotta give a lot of credit to McHale because all these new "Soup" shows (like the sports one) suuuccccckkkkkkk.

You'd think standing in front of a green screen and letting the clips do the funny would be easy, but apparently, no it's not.

Much love to Paul F. Tompkins, but Best Week Ever tanked when he became the "host" and the format completely changed. There was a time when it was really great, though.

I was determined to not like Tosh.0, but it's winning me over.

I love this show to death.

i rarely see the show but i love this guy.

I tend to spend most of the week spontaneously remembering things from this show and then laughing quietly to myself. Lately it's been the Today clip where Meredith Viera told that woman her dress was ugly.

McHale is awesome and adorable, and i've always disliked The soup

But yeah, the McHale manner has served this show better than his predecessors, I think, and to be honest I think I have loved every predecessor on this show since like the mid-90s

well, you know, "his predecessors on the other show when it was different and had a slightly different name," but y'all know what I mean -- I would start a Kinnear / Henson / Sparks / Tyler / McHale poll, but I'm pretty sure McHale would take it, unless there are a lot of Tyler crushes lurking around here

wait are we getting into ranking Talk Soup hosts, or deciding where McHale belongs in that pantheon? because that's a big can of worms.

i totally don't even mind the big 6-month-interval review shows and 'soup presents' things, because the clips are almost always funny the 2nd or 3rd time around, and they usually come up with good new jokes/reactions

the only thing that gets me is when the clip is from a show you actually watch, and you realize how something not-that-weird in context can seem particularly LOLsome when clipped correctly, and then your faith in things is a bit shaken

then you see that clip with the stage-mother in the tiny skirt who asks her kid if her tampon string is hanging out, and you're like no, context is irrelevant, that is just insane

there was one hilarious joke where they showed this clip of an idol camera zooming in on seacrest in front of the lol hueg screen on the stage and mchale says something like "and that's only a 32" inch screen"

also it's hilarious that seacrest gets so butthurt over the short zings

i don't think his appearance on conan is still on hulu but it was also hilarious

mchale was busting pardo's (short) balls on the carolla podcast and it was quite unfunny... maybe he's sensitive about his height

And, yes: this is one of the most consistently funny shows on television. And I think it serves an important function by helping us to laugh at a lot of things that might otherwise provoke horrified weeping.

I highly recommend the recent episode of the Nerdist podcast with Joel McHale as the guest (the podcast's host is Chris Hardwick, and he and Joel came up together doing stand up in L.A. - they tell lots of funny stories). McHale comes across as a truly nice guy and a great storyteller.

That's too bad. I don't watch it as much as I used to, but I think The Soup serves a noble function in making awful aspects of American culture feel a little less awful.

see, the difference here is, that, in his heart, joel mchale is an actually nice guy. he's gone on record saying it's all in good fun, sends flowers to people he routinely beats up, etc. the soup has a history.
