This is about the song, "Sweet Dreams", a popular dance single from the musical group La Bouche which was released in 1994. I would like to know what your favorite line from the chorus of the song is. Mine is, "Ola ola eh, ola ola eh, ola ola eh eh, ola ola eh...". Perhaps you like that line, or maybe you favor a different line. I am interested in your choice of line. Please tell me your favorite line.

My second favorite line of the song is, "Sweet dreams of rhythm and dancing". This evokes, for me, the sense of a very tranquil and pleasant dream, perhaps akin to one that you might have after spending a long afternoon with a loved one. Now, which line do you think is the best?

If pressed to select a third favorite line, I would have to choose, "Sweet dreams of dancing through the night". I don't feel that mentioning passion in a popular song is appropriate, especially a song that was as popular with children as "Sweet Dreams" was, so I would be forced to admit that "Sweet dreams of passion through the night" is my least favorite line of the song by a country mile. Still, I forgive La Bouche their temporary lapse of good judgment, as they are responsible for one of the definining anthems of the mid-1990s.

P.S. Which is your favorite line? There are four to choose from.

I'm sorry. Please allow me to correct myself. There are five lines to choose from. Happy choosing!

shouldn't this be on ILM

Deric, you could ask LaBouche to make it more child-friendly by changing my favorite lyric, and your least favorite, to "sweet dreams of passionfruit tonight."

I can move this to ILM if you wish but I kind of like it where it is.

No, this is about the feelings that the lines from the song provoke, not about the music itself. It is about everything. Please tell me your feelings by selecting a line that is your favorite.

I like your replacement lyric, Abbott. Unfortunately, one half of La Bouche has passed away, so I am willing to accept the lyric as is.

"Sweet dreams are taking over" evokes no sinister feelings whatsoever, in spite of the usurping going on.

I don't remember what the "Ola ola eh" sounds like. I try to remember and all I hear in my head is "Aw haw eh hey eee, Wanna be my lover"

I did not know one half of LaBouche died. I will have some sweet dreams in their honor tonight.

Hahaha elmo I wanted to bring up "wanna be my lu-huvvah." Both "Aw ha YAY hay" and "oh-why-o-lye-eh" are things you can sing, say, at work, and everyone will be snarling "WANNA BE MY LUH-HUVVAH" or "SWEET DREAMS OF RHYTHM & DANCING" all through their shift.

This is not uncommon, elmo. Perhaps an enterprising soul will compose a "mega mix" of the two songs which incorporates both of their most famous wordless breakdowns. Such as:

"Ola ola eh, wanna be my lover."

Or:

"Aw haw eh hey eee, ola ola."

There really is a limitless number of possible permutations.

I just want to emphasize that the dreams of which La Bouche refer are not your workaday, run-of-the-mill dreams of rhythm and/or dancing. Such dreams are, I'm sure we'll all agree, unspectacular and not really worth the effort of singing about (let alone all of the added effort which performing, touring, promoting, etc. require). What really distinguishes the dreams in question is the quality of sweetness. This is a rare and, indeed, exciting quality, one which placees pedestrian dreams of rhythm and plain-jane dreams of dancing on an epic stage. These are the kinds of dreams writ large by Homer, and by Shakespeare, and in 1994, by La Bouche.

I believe in these sweet dreams of rhythm and dancing.

Have you ever been taken over by a dream? By a sweet dream? I ask because I have, and if their music is any indication, I think the same could be said about the members of La Bouche. Never has a band been so utterly, chillingly convincing as when La Bouche sang with authority about the experience of being taken over by a sweet dream. One gets the sense that this is an experience that they have had a number of times, to the extent that their ability to convey the experience far surpasses that of any fledgling dreamer of sweet dreams. La Bouche were journeymen and pioneers. Theirs was a bitter, thankless task: to both bring the people of the world the freshest dance jam of 1994 and to convey through that medium the rapture of being taken over by a sweet dream. Can there be any doubt that they succeeded, with both grace and profound aplomb?
