one month passes...

Poor Baxter needs new knees. We just found out that the muscles that run over his joints aren't working properly and he needs surgery. I guess it's common with small dogs. The vet seems to think he'll be fine, but the recovery time is very lengthy - like 16 weeks for some.

Thanks - yeah, he just turned one year old.

Petellar luxation is the medical term for his condition. Anyone ever experienced this w/a pet before?

My cat's desires are so pure, so untainted by thought. He she is pictured wanting tuna very badly.

That is a nice-looking slider, dyao.

I love my turtle but he's pretty damned averse to being picked up. That is the worst thing about him. He's a Texas spiny softshell, and I can't wait 'til he's all big and can rip a finger off with ease (tbh I have nightmares about this).

existential eggs (Abbott), Monday, 5 October 2009 02:18 (fifteen years ago)

oh those are cute! I want to get an exotic-ish turtle but I'm afraid of them being high-maintenance. I have a tough enough time trying to get my turtle to eat enough greens as it is.

IME all turtles hate being picked up. they're not really a pet you can cuddle with. but I'd happily spend an afternoon with a couple of beers just watching my turtle swim around in her tank.

power, corruption & plies (dyao), Monday, 5 October 2009 02:20 (fifteen years ago)

This guy's pretty easy as his species is straight-up carnivorous anyway. Earthworms + guppies + turtle pellets (to make sure he gets enough calcium/convenience).

Is that a dog toy or a baby toy in front of the dog?

mascara and ties (Abbott), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:54 (fifteen years ago)

I think at that stage they're pretty much the same.

james cameron gargameled my boner for life (Pancakes Hackman), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:58 (fifteen years ago)

It's a dog toy, but yeah, there's a lot of confusion in the house over who's toy is whose. They should make Rawhide Barbie for families like mine.

No idea if this video will embed: http://www.vimeo.com/4777310

Also, not a pet, but she lives in our backyard and likes to sunbathe--a bluetongue lizard

She has a child who also lives in the backyard, but is more camera-shy

that is a weird lizard and an awesome video!

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Thursday, 10 December 2009 02:05 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks! This lizard, (which is about 40cm/14" long) likes to come out and sunbathe during the day, but then has to deal with our cat, who is compelled by lunatic instinct to rush past it at regular intervals, patting at it nervously with a paw in passing, and then getting the hell away before getting a savage gumming (the lizard has no teeth, but one hell of a grip with its jaws).
