i watched this last night after a gap of at least 20 years and it's just stunning, isn't it? a truly perfect thing. Paris looks romantically grey and dishevelled and through that thing, in virtually every shot that shiny beautiful red balloon that you cannot move your eyes from. glorious!

i haven't seen "White Mane" but i'll check it out asap.

hypnagogic movie! (not really - but def. one of the films of my childhood, shown all the time on kids tv back in the 70s, a portal now to old feelings/memories, and still a great primer abt friendship and loss - and one of the strongest childlike visions of Paris along w/ MON ONCLE and ZAZIE DANS LE METRO)
