Vying for the title of most pointless and dull poll of all time... it's the DYSON AIRBLADE vs THE XCELERATOR. LET'S GET IT OOOOOOOOON.

Poll Results

OptionVotes
Dyson Airblade 19
Xcelerator 6

N1ck (Upt0eleven), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 11:59 (sixteen years ago)

The first time I saw an airblade (in the loo of the Social, of all places) oh how I scoffed - THAT THING WILL NEVER DRY MY HANDS. Put my hands in and faster than a cokehead cutting the toilet queue, my god my hands were dry. Have loved them ever since.

Your Mother Smells Of Elderflower (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:01 (sixteen years ago)

Wasn't so impressed with the airblade meself. Nice idea but had to move my hands pretty slowly to actually get them dry. Xlerator otoh - my skin! It's moving! It's like being in a centrifuge.

ledge, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:03 (sixteen years ago)

Xcelerators are awesome though - they make your skin vibrate with the power of several levels of G-force.

I assume Dyson is the same firm that produces those shitty "sleek" vacuum cleaners, right? I opt for the other one then.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:13 (sixteen years ago)

Dyson vacuum cleaners are teh awesome!

ailsa, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:17 (sixteen years ago)

In terms of innovation, Dyson have something new here, but the Xcelerator has taken what has worked really well for years and cranked it up to 11. Skin-shredding forces of air blasting off the water is all you really need from a dryer, innit?

ailsa, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:19 (sixteen years ago)

I like the total immersion factor of the Dyson. It's like what I thought the future would be like - that futuristic lab in the Andromeda Strain where you shower just by stepping into a human shaped cubicle and a laser beam wipes the dirt from your body and dries it instantly.

Your Mother Smells Of Elderflower (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:21 (sixteen years ago)

I ABSTAIN PAPER TOWELS FTW. Quicker and better for you (did you know that hand dryers are very effective at getting remaining bacteria warm enough to be active again rather than wiped off and in the bin) and better for the environment (so much energy!). But then I've never used an Airblade, and it sure does look fancy.

Akon/Family (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:27 (sixteen years ago)

The Xcelerator just blows me away, every single time. Remarkable.

a being that goes on two legs and is ungrateful (dyao), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:28 (sixteen years ago)

I was totally 100% paper towels until I tried an Airblade. They are TEH FUTURE.

Your Mother Smells Of Elderflower (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:29 (sixteen years ago)

I would walk through a full-body-sized Xcelerator after getting out of the shower no bother at all (as long as there were no mirrors around where I could see my entire body being wobbled about by it).

(this was discussed in the pub once, the first time any of us saw an Xcelerator. Positives seemed to outweigh the negatives)

xpost, aye, I use paper towels at work, but in the likes of my local pub it is Airblade or one of those never-ending rolly towel things that look like they haven't been clean for 100 years, so no contest really.

ailsa, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:29 (sixteen years ago)

The Airblade makes me excited to dry my hands. Who gets excited to dry her hands in this cynical modern age?

My doctor's office has an all-white, very professional and clinical looking either non-Dyson or private labeled Blade-style dryer. I've always wanted to ask someone about that so I could research patent lawsuits, but didn't want my doctor to think I was weird.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:32 (sixteen years ago)

only used the airblade, doesn't seem to be any downside, and worked much better than i'd ever have thought.

Bobkate Goldtwat (darraghmac), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:33 (sixteen years ago)

Funny, I've had that full-body airblade conversation as well - wonder if there are reasons it would be unsafe?

Soukesian, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:36 (sixteen years ago)

would need to be 360 degrees to work, could be tricky that

Bobkate Goldtwat (darraghmac), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

The downside is you feel like a right n00b dangling your hands into a current of air in that fashion.

I'm fine with Dyson wanting to bring on the future but can't they just do it with hoverboards or something?

N1ck (Upt0eleven), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:39 (sixteen years ago)

Airblade looks like it could be somehow played, like a theremin

bham, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:39 (sixteen years ago)

Was full body Xcelerator, not Airblade. And yes, Airblades make you look a twat wiggling your hands up and down.

ailsa, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:40 (sixteen years ago)

Dyson vacuum cleaners are teh awesome!

We had two... or maybe three and all of'em died on us pretty quickly. Especially if you want to vacuum for longer periods, it overheats and just shuts down (according to our cleaning lady).

Nathalie (stevienixed), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:54 (sixteen years ago)

where do i vote for "my pants"

there is no there there (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:16 (sixteen years ago)

bound to be at least one TMI poll where it's an applicable answer.

Bobkate Goldtwat (darraghmac), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:17 (sixteen years ago)

xxpost, but you don't have to change the bag! (I guess you don't have to change the bag if you pay someone else to do it either)

(this is about vacuum cleaners, btw, I'm sure someone will make it about elmo's pants shortly though)

ailsa, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:21 (sixteen years ago)

sung to the tune of "Elmo's world"...

Mark G, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:22 (sixteen years ago)

there are only v few of these fancy hand-dryers around here, and the most common things I use to dry my hands after using a public washroom are the right and left legs of my jeans. just sayin'.

there is no there there (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:25 (sixteen years ago)

I read this in a women's mag somewhere, but if you have to dry your hands on your pants (I typed "dry your pants on your jeans" which what?), do so on the back of your calves since very few people will see the wet hand prints back there in the way they would see them if you dried your hands on the front or back of your thighs.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

i can't reach the back of my calves, without help at least.

Bobkate Goldtwat (darraghmac), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

yeah while my vote went to paper towels, if they're not available it's usually five seconds of the dryer, followed by fuck it I'm waiting no longer, followed by jeans. So black jeans FTW.

That said, while I still haven't used one, the Airblade has won me over.

Akon/Family (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:50 (sixteen years ago)

I refuse to choose, these are both awesome

Four-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:51 (sixteen years ago)

xlerator makes the most annoying noise i've ever heard.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:52 (sixteen years ago)

Nothing is worse than the wimpy hand dryers that seem like they just have a captive asthmatic rabbit in there.

ledge, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:52 (sixteen years ago)

airblade crap - want to leave the toilet feeling my hands are clean but the uneven buffeting of the back vs. palm of hands means it is difficult to avoid at some point touching the machine even w/ trying

yes maybe only I have this problem and yes most of the hands put in the machine will probably have been washed a bit (but not all of them) but airblade crap

xecutioner amazing

conrad, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:55 (sixteen years ago)

are your hands the size of pineapples????

Four-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 14:00 (sixteen years ago)

conrad, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 14:03 (sixteen years ago)

Four-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 14:03 (sixteen years ago)

are yours?

conrad, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

no, mine are on the smaller side, so I've never had a problem with touching any part of the Airblade

Four-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)

like large mangoes?

conrad, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

This is insane!

bad-boy (sic) cartographer (actually a girl) (called) (not named) (Abbott), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 16:58 (sixteen years ago)

Like both of these much better than the crap old ones, but don't like seeing all the grotty crud piling up in the bottom of the airblade chamber.

stet, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

I have never seen either one of these. You guys live in THE FUTURE.

walking into a public restroom and seeing that i will be having an exit interview w/the dyson airblade makes my day

A B C, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 23:05 (sixteen years ago)

although i always end up overthinking the operation game of drawing my hands out & touching the machine.

A B C, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 23:06 (sixteen years ago)

have never used an xlerator. Love the Dyson. So have to go for that uneducatedly.

123456789 (jim), Wednesday, 26 August 2009 23:14 (sixteen years ago)

so i bitched about this once upthread and i guess no one else find the xlerator's noise like nails on a chalkboard?

System, Thursday, 27 August 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

You guys are all soooo rong. The dyson thing blows your hands around and makes you touch the sides. Plus it just doesn't work as well!

Dan I., Friday, 28 August 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

wait ... so you're actually supposed to put your hands inside that thing?!

what happened? i am confused. (sarahel), Friday, 28 August 2009 02:50 (sixteen years ago)
