it rains non-stop and i love it

mark s, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are you a weather populist or a weather rebel?

mark s, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ONce I'd vanquished my inner Goth, I learned wuv the sun. But now I have a little garden (just pots), I love the rain too. Even though it stops me going barefoot and wearing sandals, I think of them soaking up all the rain and growing; the poppies are flowering, there're buds on the campanula, and the geranimum leaves are huge, and I can be glad. I am a weather Pollyanna: it's all good.

Ellie, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When I arrived in toronto it was raining like hell. Everyone was saying 'hey, it reminds you of London' but I love the sun too because it is now SUNNY and lovely ha ha and all you londoners can kiss my HOT ASS.

(i will post as much as i can on ILE as I am on ILM now sice the whole thing might go one of these days).

Julio Desouza, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Summer rain is nice and refreshing. Also I like it when it gets all dark and moody in the middle of the day. Winter rain just piles on the misery.

David, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeh rain is really good. hard rain that soaks you thoroughly, or gentle rain with a bit of fog. i also like snow and sunshine. the only bad weather is wind. or mugginess, but fortunately dunedin does not have to put up with that. am i a weather populist or a weather rebel?

queenoftheharpies, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i want it to stop being so hot

anthony, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have just bought lovely new trainers that are a disaster in the rain = i hate the rain.

toby, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

go barefoot toby => shoes = rub

mark s, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony, it's only 21C where you are right now

Brian MacDonald, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh it is such a NICE day in Dunedin today - crisp, blueskys, just enough sun so u have to wear sunglasses. Im taking Ringo(da dog) for a big walk and swim after work.

ducklingmonster, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i know i hate it

anthony, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Los Angeles is having its driest year since we started recording it. I think we're at about 5" of rain for the whole year! Normally it's about 15".

nickn, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the fires have raised such a plume of smoke here that the temps are actually rather nice as they are moderated by the lack of sunlight. 100000 acres in 36 hours, this is amazing and sad. the sun is a melancholy shade of orange.

keith, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dunedin weather is GRATE - wandering around in the rain@3am amongst decaying architecture is decadently ambience overkill. (+ it snowed! !!!!etc)
Sunshowers & hail are also pleasing.

Ess Kay, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i did spend the summer of 98 going barefoot most of the time, which was quite fun; but barefoot in central cambridge = one thing, barefoot around london = utter madness i fear.

toby, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

blimey toby, my shoes once broke in central Cambridge and i had to go barefoot and it HURT! and i was worried about my tootsies getting run over by all the rogue cyclists! but hmm yes weather. i wuvwuvwuv lots of rain but only if i'm indoors when it's happening... otherwise i don't really mind any weather but i don't like it TOO hot. heh, i'll shut the fuck up and have a SOlero now...

katie, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

kiwis do have this thing about going barefoot.

Alan T, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i enjoyed the spitting cold rain on sunday when i was feeling as rough as a very drunk dog that was already feeling quite rough itself before it got drunk. and then some

Alan T, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like wind, rain and snow. The thought of a long hot summer depresses me. I like it how it is now, heavy rain, wind, sunshine, rain, sun, wind, rain etc.

jel --, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Rain rain go away come agane another day - or in fact DO NOT as I love rain! I also can enjoy the SUN and it will lift my SPIRITS unless I have go out in it where there is no wind and ugly Lundingites do not wear enough clothes and I sweat like a pig on a spit. Not nice.

Sarah, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You rain lovers are all mentalists. Rain is bad and miserable and wet and dirty (well it is in London).

Emma, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Obviously sun is better. Everyone's happier when it's sunny, well everyone except ILE mentalists and people who have recently been knocked out of the World Cup or evicted from the BB house or suffered some similar tragedy.

Ronan, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

On a sunny (but not blazing) Curva Nord I watched Parma play Venezia. Three days later I went to my local barber in Bermondsey who told me (in terms not short on expletives) the top of my rapidly balding pate was badly suburnt and I was "lucky it hadn't blistered up". Ew. The thought of wearing a hat (or a syrup) around the place fills me with dread, although I have been considering wearing a hanky with knots in the corners.

The sunshine is dangerous and bad.

Tim, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My dad used to get this whilst driving round France with the sunroof open Tim. My mum insisted on getting him a selection of rather natty caps which quite suited him. Alternatives include: baseball cap (not very you, I don't think), Panama hats (I do love a gentleman in a Panama hat), Balaclava (too warm in summer) or as you say, the knotted hankie. Or how about a bandana? Be creative & love the sun!

Emma, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm only happy when it rains. Groan.

I like the rain at times - hate spitting rain, but once you're really wet, it's lovely. But I am from the North.

Nathan Manson, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hopkins in "i am a goth" non-shockah!!

mark s, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Set a goth to catch a goth, as the old saying goes.

Emma, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Weather, eh? It's difficult to avoid. If it's dry and windless and the same temperature outside as in, does that mean there is no weather or does it mean you can get weather indoors too?

Gordon, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"it's raining in my heart"

mark s, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It rains = I get soaked
It is sunny = my eyes hurt
It is humid = I get migranes
It is summer in general = I get hay fever

I hate Nature...it sucks.

DG, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Turned out nice today, hasn't it...

Nathan British, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what if it snows DG? are you okay if it snows? :)

jel --, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DG, three words: umbrella, sunglasses, er, can't actually remember the name of any brand of hayfever remedy but think of one and insert here for word three.

Emma, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Zirtek + Beconase + Opticrom.

Ellie, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was thinking of Beconase but then when I typed it, it just looked like too daft a name and I decided I must have imagined it. Why Beconase? Why Zirtek for that matter? Why not sensible does what it says on the tin names like Sneezeaway or Mucusbuster?

Emma, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ewww

nabisco%%, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Also because things that do things to the inside of your head need fancy names. No one wants non-fancy non-technical products messing with the insides of their skulls.)

This is a topic of perennial interest to me insofar as US pharm companies are now moving toward this brand name combo wherein an on- the-tin prefix gets a medical-sounding suffix and so you: e.g. Claritin. I am waiting for the often-advertised "male enhancement" products (they advertise these on television now! frolicking on beaches with impressed-looking ladies!) to come down a notch and start inspiring Dickonorm and Schlongitrol.

nabisco%%, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Err please thing about the weather instead of the grammatical debacle above.

nabisco%%, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Erectithon?

Ellie, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bonervox

mark s, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I dabble in hay fever stuff it will mean I am no longer XstraightedgeX. Well apart from cigarettes obviously.

DG, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha yes but it's not strictly erectile in the Viagra sense, you see, it makes it larger. (I.e. it takes less than two years after letting pharmcorps advertise on television for them to go straight to "Well what do men, at root, really really want?" "Right, right, bigger dicks.")

nabisco%%, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"at root" hee hee.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I "stand" corrected hur hur. (This is but a weak homage to Mr Perry).

Ellie, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

kiwis do have this thing about going barefoot.

yeah we don't unless we're stupid hippies.

queenoftheharpies, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

New Zealanders are compulsive weatherists. We always like to know what the long range forecast is so we can properly schedule our sports practises and farming procedures, our bush walks and our camping trips, our outdoor concerts and school gala days.

Taxi drivers consider themselves surrogate weather reporters, and they turn purple with rage if you don't ask them what it looks like for tomorrow's weather within two minute of getting in the cab.

Overall I think we prefer sunshine, but if it rains, we console ourselves that it's good for the garden.

rainy, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah fuck.. Seattle expects to be 90F/31C today with 75% humidity. It could be worse.. but still.. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Brian MacDonald, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It was *really* cold here this morning...the weather here has been alternating between being really unseasonably cold for this time of year or very warm with loads of humidity.

Nicole, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Global warming and climate collapse. We all gonna die.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

just to let you all know, it DOES rain in L.A. Very heavily at this moment in fact.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 06:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's super clear, super cold, and super beeyootiful in Seattle right now... well cold for Seattle... just below freezing.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 07:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

our categorization of the world frustrates me sometimes, possibly b/c what wld i do without it; i wld probably do it anyway

We've had our AC off and our doors and windows open for two days now, in August, in Mississippi. I'm not complaining, but this is seriously weird.

eight years pass...

This morning started out much cloudier than anticipated, which didn’t allow energy to build up to fuel future thunderstorms. Storms formed quickly this morning, using up any energy that developed. This left no fuel for severe thunderstorms later today. #MOwx #ILwx #STLwx #MidMOwx pic.twitter.com/zzAc6GMjBM

when you see a flash of lightning, count how many seconds it takes before you hear the thunder. That’s the amount of fuel in the environment
