Re-Cycle, film by the Pang brothers, someone help me work out my feelings toward this (ok so there is like ZERO chance that this will not contain spoilers btw, so if you look in here its yer own fault

searched, found nothing on this. i am like 95% behind the idea that this movie is brilliant, but the underlying political/social/moral message that becomes clear at the end is FUCKING WITH ME.

20 minutes of straight up by the book horror, then 90 minutes of incredible fever dream hallucinatory creeeeepy perfection, and then heavy handed pro-life vibe. how to parse this film?

help!

oh yeah and some seriously touching stuff w/the ignored elders getting flowers. but then there is the suicide forest. and the fallopian monster fetus cave. what the fuck?

I haven't seen that Pang Bros one, but now I want to.

if i ignore my one trepidation, its the best movie i've seen this year by far.

like in the category of hounding everyone i know that would pay attention to see it immediately up until my balking re: the end.

Unfortunately I can't use netflix, but I have found another way to get it. The pro-life ending seems very intriguing. I will report later on !

upon reflection, not even sure if the ending is pro-life, or something else entirely. getting another perspective would be useful, so glad you are interested.

ok read a v interesting take on the "pro-life" deal that insists that it is a misreading of culture from a western view - posits that it is instead an endictment of the historical abandonment of female babies in China because of the birth restrictions and desire for male heirs. which would sit a lot better with me - and i have to admit that its kind of telling that most western viewers (myself included) just assume that they are getting at our particular touchstone of the prolife/prochoice debate.

yea it was very hard to deny the pro-life sentimentality. my eyes were rollin, basically. mostly it made me want the pang bros to work w/ a good script sometime
