i like the recent resurgence of gola. i have brown/gold, darkblue/paleblue, orange/black and brown/yellow, i made the mistake of getting a white/blue pair too but they make me look like a camp central park badminton player circa 83

gareth, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are you american?? - you really DO love gola

james, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no i'm english! what makes you say that?

gareth, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

just the central park thing - dont worry about it - i had an arms around the world moment

james, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i just bought proper running shoes for the first time. not trainers i suppose, still thought you'd like to know. they stop my feet from curling inwards as i run and keep my legs from going all over the place.

Alan Trewartha, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i've been alternating between black converse all stars and adidas sambas or stan smiths since high school. maybe it's time for a change. what shoes should a guy who wears levis and plain black or white t-shirts get? does it even matter?

fritz, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i like converse. i am rather limited to trainer-wear cos of the vegan no leather thing (they make trainers out of KANGAROO leather sometimes you know!). i have one pair of all black converses that my manager has nicked grrr and i want to buy a white pair. also i have a pair of red vegetarian trainers that i think are made by New Balance but they look a bit dorky i have decided.

katie, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Black converse avec one star. Black velcro converse with no stars. New balance 802s for the gym. White and green Tigxx0rs. (Grrr, I'm a tiger). Blue pumas.

Sarah, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

james, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh, you beat me, I'm up to 29 pairs at the moment and my favourites are my nice new Nike Air mocs, like suede bags for your feet!

chris, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually sweeties - I only wear custom designed sneaks with my name on the back... get them from Customatix.com They're $70-85 or £60-70 in the UK.

Here is the last pair I ordered: My Shoes!

Simeon, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Trainers are a rip-off fer christ sake!

I have two pairs of black shoes on principle.

Julio Desouza, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Black Reeboks. My regular standby for about six, seven years now.

Rewatching Aliens reminded me that Reeboks will be found in the future as space-age grey and orange boots, perfect for locking yourself into a massive mechanical apparatus useful for putting mother aliens into a chokehold.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Converse All Stars (high-tops, natch) in a variety of colors for almost 20 years now.

Sean, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am still partial to my LA Gear hightops with the triple velcro action for ankle support. Also my blue suede Diadoras and my white Converse with the set of color cards I use to coordinate with whatever else I am wearing (there are little window thingies in the shape of the Converse logo that the cards go in).

Andy K, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

black converse low tops, new balance 802 for baseball, puma's for whenever.

Chris, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My favourites: whatever seems least objectionable among the cheapest ones I can find without having to try too hard, generally under £10. I've no idea what label they are. This is indicative of my level of interest in clothes, and I'm too low at present to cope with comments like "We knew that from looking at you" thanks very much.

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The re-issued 80s Samoa series from Adidas with it's eysplitting colour-combos are my favourite (I have two pairs) there's this (new) one here now in bright yellow with grass green stripes.

I like it that all the colour you see on the street now is from the trainers people wear, the whole trend has brought bright colours back on the street! And they're really blocking the dull black and brown male shoes at the moment...but for how long?

erik, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

current fave trainers = blue woven air prestos. although i thought i would have to lock them up and never wear them again after a "comedy" e/ketamine error the other week. kept seeing hearts/diamonds/spades/clubs in them for ages.

toby, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think your average englishman is way more into sneakers than most americans (except for super-crazy urban hip-hop kidz; and yes I think this has something to do with going to clubs/pubs and not going).

Stop shouting at me. My head hurts.

Matt, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I looove my red lottos. 'park yr lot.toes on the mat' I can get so god.damned. excited about shoes. But usually find the joy of discovering them 2nd hand in MY size! to be the biggest thrill, and of course cheaper.

jm, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shoes are evil

mark s, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they are the umbrellas of the pedal universe

mark s, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm wondering if mark s. has a ponytail.

Sean, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
recommend me some quality, inexpensive women's trainers (ahem: SNEAKERS) for long-distance walking. the last time i bought real, name-brand trainers (ahem: SNEAKERS) was 1998 and those were good at the time but I can't wear them anymore because the instep digs into my foot in a painful way.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

by inexpensive i mean ideally under $75, but i'd pay more if the shoe was REALLY THAT GOOD.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

footsmart.com has the best advice:

If the shoe does not fit, do not wear it.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 02:42 (twenty years ago)

Adidas supernovas. $60ish. Also, once I broke in my Keen maryjane Seattle shoes, I started walking in those, too. Supposedly the new Keen maryjanes don't need breaking in, so if you want non-sneaker good walking shoes, try those. Keens have nice arch support and good bounce to them.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

why do sneakers have to be so damn unattractive? all the ones i'm finding on the web look like surgical footwear gone extreeeeeeeeeeeeme.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

although these aren't bad; they're kinda feminine and they're only $50.95 on shoebuy.com.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

i had a very strange dream the other night wherein i acquired a pair of grey reeboks, like old school style with the little airholes.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 03:03 (twenty years ago)

Back in high school I had some great ones that had smooth leather on the inside of the upper in the very back, up where the achilles tendon rubs on it, instead of jersey-covered foam padding like they have nowadays. I got six or seven good years out of these shoes, because they just didn't wear down in the place that I wear out shoes first. Are there any shoes that don't have this planned-obsolescence built into them now?

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

Those shoes are more than just kinda feminine; they appear to actually have shoe vaginas on the sides!

Dan I. (Dan I.), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

Hmm .. how much are those shoes again?

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 03:47 (twenty years ago)

i must buy these shoes now. the well-being of ilx depends on it.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

I fear I cannot help out on this thread as you sound like you need to purchase some sneaks for a purpose. Mmm, odd concept!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

I am trying to find another pair of these trainers. I bought them way back, must be a 2 to 3 years ago now in Office in Glasgow. I think they are actually women's but who cares. They are super comfy and I like them a lot. As you can see from the pics, this pair are on their last legs.

Some dude in London said they might be Nike Volleyballs but Google Fu on that lead has so far failed. Anyone know what they're called and maybe where to get them? Or who else to ask?

They also come in white w/red swoosh and white w/green swoosh. I have looked on Nike.com for women's and men's styles but to no avail.

czn, Sunday, 20 April 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

They are Nike Track Racers

Lamp, Sunday, 20 April 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

No, they're not, sorry. Thanks though!

czn, Sunday, 20 April 2008 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

They're all canvas, except the back tab and the swoosh. The Track Racers' main panel is textile and only the front and sides are canvas.

czn, Sunday, 20 April 2008 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

Hmm. I can't think of any recent all canvas Nikes... from 2-3 yrs ago? The Bruin/All Court was a canvas sneaker but I think they're made w/leather now. The only Bruins I could find w/a Google search are pre-1990. I also found these but again those are a lot older than 2005/6.

Lamp, Sunday, 20 April 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

Woah! Those are REALLY similar. In fact, the ones I have must be a redux / reissue of that design, because they're almost identical. It's some Jonathan Ive / Dieter Rams shit!!

czn, Sunday, 20 April 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, no doubt. They're identical right down to the soles. OK, the profile is slightly different.

Any idea what those are called?

czn, Sunday, 20 April 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

Apologies to my dignity for this CSI level obsession but I really want another pair of these trainers.

czn, Sunday, 20 April 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

I was thinking they're Nike the 15s Volleyball shoes but those are oop I'm pretty sure. Maybe a weird Blazer SB? I can't find a really good picture of the new Blazers. Sry.

Either way if you just want low-top canvas Nikes there are the new Blazer as well as canvas Air Force 1s and Nike SB/Dunk SBs.

xpost. Hahaha I feel shamed on my OCD-style Niknowledge. I really want to know what make those shoes are now too.

Lamp, Sunday, 20 April 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

"Whoa, have you checked out ILX yet today? Oh, you have to. Someone's posting dozens of pictures of their old dirty shoes! How awesome is that?"

Another eBay auction.

czn, Monday, 21 April 2008 12:55 (seventeen years ago)

Dear David,

Thanks for you e-mail.

I was able to track down the name of the shoe which is women's volley premium. The shoes was only available in 2005 until March 2006. We only sold them to a couple of retailers in Spring 2005 such as Office and Van Mildert. I'm nor sure if they keep out of season stock but you might be lucky.

The NIKE style code is 310266-131 or 310266-231 if they asked about this. I also spoke to one of our sales reps and there is no replacement for this shoe available.

I'm sorry to disappoint you in this case.

Your Sincerely
Britta Schneider
for NIKE UK Ltd.
