Why do British Universities have specialized Archaeology masters programs and US ones don't?!?

Seriously, the only schools that offer masters degrees in Osteoarchaeology and Bioarchaeology are in the UK.
I know this is pretty much of interest to no one, but this irks me to no end!!

There's one program at the University of British Columbia but the admission req's are like med school level (what kind of Anth program insists on a 3.5 as the lowest acceptable cumulative gpa?!)

I guess the real question is why does America suck so much?

I'm reasonably sure UC Berkeley has one. Although maybe not. Maybe lots of US universities have phased out masters programs; I know CAl got rid of the English Lit MA years ago.

I think they have pretty good collections as well ... pretty sure it was one of few places in the US my ex- went to do research for his dissertation.
