THE ULTIMATE ILE CRISP (or potato chip, if you like ) POLL - Round 1

Message Bookmarked

Okay, so I'm doing a massive crisp/ potato chip poll. Hopefully all the crisps are going to be in here. There will be some preliminary rounds, then the top 2 or 3 from each will go into the final. This gives us an opportunity to (1) CROWN THE ULTIMATE CRISP! and (2) laugh at weird foreign crisps.

List of crisps from here:

Can't really take part in this poll on account of the omission of:

Krinkle Kettle Salt + pepper will be in a later round, as will those Zapp's Jalepeno. KP Beef won't by the look of things.

Terra Yukon Gold is probably the next best thing to the superior Kettle Salt & Peppers above.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 10:25 (sixteen years ago)

Tell you what, as the poll goes on I'll add any nominations to future rounds. I've added Smiths Chicken Potato Chips and Burts hand-fried Fire Cracker Lobster Crisps. KP Beef crisps I can't find a real reference that isn't someone remembering them, so unless you can find a link to a website or something, I'm leaving them off.

NotEnough, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 10:36 (sixteen years ago)

Obviusly vote for your faveourite from the list. Your actual real-life favourite will be up on a later round unless it's not in the list above, in which case post it here and I'll make sure to add it to a future round.

Tried these a little while ago, couldn't finish the packet as the wasabi flavour was just too intense.

KP Beef crisps I can't find a real reference that isn't someone remembering them, so unless you can find a link to a website or something, I'm leaving them off.

They haven't been made for years, but they were my favourite flavour in the 70's/early 80's. Golden Wonder Smokey Bacon were my second favourite.

I love crisps (maybe too much since I am fattey etc), but they've started to make my teeth feel really... shiny. In an unpleasant way. Like, I love McCoy's salt+vinegar crisps, but they're one of the worst culprits: my mouth feels like it's been varnished for the rest of the day, no matter how much I brush my teeth or whatever.

Wondering where the threadstarter is from, since the title says "crisps" but the only British option is Walker's Worcester Sauce. Unless the Kettle curry one is British, we have Kettle Chips but I've never seen that flavour.

Are Pringles and corn snacks heretical for this thread?

a passing spacecadet, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 12:10 (sixteen years ago)

I'm from the UK, but I figured that we should make this pan-continental, hence the crisps from all over the place. I got the list from the link above and rand() them to get an even(ish) spread. The crisps on this round are UK-light - I'm sure other rounds will redress the balance.

Pringle + corn-based snack are not crisps, but may be covered in future polls if there is an appetite (ha ha ha!) for it.

NotEnough, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 12:23 (sixteen years ago)

None of the options are known in Belgium.

I can't eat too many salt+vinegar chips at a time cause the acidity of vinegar does bad things to my teeth - I've often heard that acidity is worse than sugar with regards to dental health

they've got a good list of Calbee chips but are missing my favorite:

Humpty Dumpty sadly missed - their ketchup chips are mighty fine.

Don't eat the sour cream & clam ones though; they're as nasty as that sounds.

What I don't understand is how there aren't any ketchup-flavored chips in the USA. Seems like an obvious flavor. And whenever I'm in Canada or the UK, I gobble them up...

Herr's makes them, using Heinz ketchup no less - but I think they're a PA/NJ/DE local thing

Humpty Dumpty galdarn it! I mentioned them upthread.

Never seen them outside New England, but they're ubiquitous here.

Kettle Chips Sea Salt and Vinegar are my favorite chips by far:

Like Stan, I've not heard of a single chip/brand on that list apart from Lays, and none of them are to be seen in Australia - and as KBP poiunted out no Aussie chips like Smiths or Twisties or Kettle or Red Rock Deli have been listed, oh well.
