I know I do.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stendhal_syndrome
Sadly, this is also possibly the reason why people try and attack art. Such as the lady who just threw a cup of English Breakfast tea at the Mona Lisa.

haha, I was just about to say...
It's also a film by Dario Argento - but I think he takes some licence with the condition.

There's also the Paris Syndrome (which is a form of Stendhal Syndrome) that mostly affects japanese tourists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome

I don't really know if I suffer from Stendal Syndrome but I do get a rush when I stand in front of (what I think) is great art. I suppose that's normal though? At least that's what I was wondering when I started this thread.

with amazing music and amazing scenes in amazing movies I get a very rapid heartbeat and the shivers/goosebumps. sometimes my eyes get watery and I breathe strangely. not with visual art though... it just looks nice. this count?

Stendhal syndrome, Stendhal's syndrome, Hyperkulturemia, or Florence syndrome, is a psychosomatic illness that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, confusion and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to art
I usually put it down to the booze rather than any syndrome

You go boozing and then look at art? I usually look at art in the morning.

I did go to a Turner exhibition while seriously hungover and still drunk from the night before, this was not a great idea

There's also the Reubens Syndrome which is when art makes you want to do the wild thing, right there and then on the floor of the Galleria Borghese.

great bit about stendahl's original fit in julian barnes' last book, will post later.
― ledge, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)
Much later... and it's not that great. But Stendahl described his fainting fit in a book in 1826, telling how in 1811 he was "seized with a fierce palpitation of the heart" after seeing the frescoed ceiling of a chapel. Unfortunatley his diary of 1811 tells a different story - no fainting fit is mentioned, and the ceiling, he writes, "is very effective, but my eyesight is not good enough to describe ceilings".

Certainly one of Argento's better latter-era works. Can't speak for the science behind it.

Last year at Terrastock in Louisville, Kentucky, a number of us, including Elvis Telecom and I, were in a hotel just across the street from the Kaden Tower. I kinda knew when I saw it that Elvis would be fascinated by it, and I was right -- he said several times that weekend, "It's like Stendahl Syndrome -- I can't stop looking at it!"

Ha! I was just about to post a picture of Kaden Tower.
Seriously, once you see it you can't stop looking...
