I can't be trusted with money

In the last few weeks I've lost ten pound notes on 2 separate occasions (or overspent money in such away that there's almost exactly ten pounds of spending that I don't remember), and this week I withdrew 20 quid ready to chip in for ILE alkihole, only to take my card, my mini-statement, and walk away without taking the cash (If no-one else nabbed it i) Does the machine swallow it again, I know I've been beeped at to hurry up and take my cash before and ii) would it go back into my account? (I haven't been back to check)).

And how dumb are you?

Graham, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the machine does not swallow yr money: the next cashpoint user swallows yr money => the beep means "remember not to let the next cashpoint user swallow yr money"

However if you leave your card in there and walk off -> it will suck the card back in

THe money goes to a pecil

mike hanle y, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are you sure mark? i was under the impression that if you didn't take the money inside of like 30secs it got sucked back in. not sure where i got that from, though; i've certainly never walked off without my cash.

i haven't the slightest idea, toby => i was being totally "if the wind changes your face will stay like that"

mark s, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am careful with money. I am the person who probably finds your money.

I don't think cash points are high tech enough to suck the money back in, plus I have been behind someone who left their money (and yes I did go after them to give them their money back)

jel --, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, after about twenty seconds it sucks the money back in. You can of course check this by getting another mini statement (I know this because we have a cashpoint here and the FAQ for cashpoint operators make this clear . Ditto cards as said above).

Still, it is bally stupid.

I was under the impression that if you are withdrawing cash / getting some kind of printed thingy the machine won't dispense the cash / printed thingy until you have taken the card out cos otherwise dozy people would leave their cards behind & this stops them.

Emma, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah but he took his card out, took his mini-statement and forgot to wait for the money. Eejit.

Pete, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i once left $40 in the ATM. now thats dumm.

queenoftheharpies, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

statement comes after the money.

jel --, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bally stupid

Is this from the people who brought you "cully".

I nearly did this once but the person I was with saw it and she was like you idiot you forgot your money.

Ronan, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bally is quite a common word, well it might have been if you were quite posh about 50 years ago. Isn't it a politer form of bloody?

Anyway Pete you said 'ditto cards' hence my useful point.

Emma, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

SOrry not correcting you merely clarifying. And twenty seconds is still plenty of time for someone to notice a beeping machine and nick the money so....

I looked up Cully in the slang dictionary the other day, and what do you know it actually exists. (nineteenth century stang for a stupid person). I must mainline anachronistic slang or summat.

I did this a few weeks ago Graham - lost £30 at the cash machine at work. Someone on the sports desk picked it up before the machine did I think cause he sent an email saying that someone had left £10 in the machine. I assumed this was a cunning trick to catch out bogus claimants but I emailed him a couple of days later (when I was back at work) and he never replied. I have given it up as a bad lot.

My mum took so long putting her card back in her purse onces that the machine took it back and said 'Sorry, you took too long'. She thought that was very rude.

(jel: mini-statement != receipt => separate transaction)

THE MONEY IS BACK

12 JUN ATM 20.00-
13 JUN C/R 20.00+
14 JUN 3.99-

So I lose 4 quid (I presume that's what that is). But it was busy street so wow. I can be as stupid as I Iike from now on.

(Also while out I aquired a local jobs paper. ph34r my POSITION OF RESPONSIBILITY!!!!)

Graham, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Look, I could drive an ice cream van (if I could drive). Bah.

Graham, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bank charge £4 for sucking shockah!

mark s, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

but £3.99 rather than £4 charge is a bit random isn't it?

katie, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a legal requirement to give change? I dunno.
