I live near there!
On Nostrand between Eastern Parkway and Atlantic:
Key Food and Met supermarket
An OK but cheap pizza place
Ital Shak (Vegetarian West Indies cuisine)
Plenty of bodegas and a drycleaner
For what it is worth, there is also an Applebees and a bunch of other fast food at Fulton and Nostrand, and I think another grocery store.

For more "upscale" options, Franklin Ave has an awesome Indian restaurant, good chinese takeout, a "gourmet" bodega, and a "hip" bar.
There is a good tex-mex place on Classon, and both Washington and especially Vanderbilt Aves have loads of bars, restaurants and shops.

I can provide much more detail than this. What neighborhood are you moving from?

OK. Don't know what your price range is, but, if you are willing to have your favorite bar/restaurant, etc. be .3 or so miles away as opposed to directly below your apartment, then I would def keep looking around the area. There are a lot of good deals to be had. My roommates and I had begun to look into moving into other neighborhoods and were pretty dissapointed. We will probably aim at moving a stop closer in on the 2/3/4/5 as opposed to switching lines.

xpost

disappointed because move from Crown Heights to somewhere on L train =
trade large rooms with backyard in nice brownstone for half the space and "luxury" faux bamboo floors. and pay more.
