so is this any good? Friends on facebook are raving about it. Somehow I can't imagine it being all that good.

Bay-L.A. Bar Talk (Hurting 2), Saturday, 3 October 2009 02:56 (fifteen years ago)

I really cannot wait to see this.

Adventures of Dog Boy and Frank Sobotka (B.L.A.M.), Monday, 5 October 2009 14:12 (fifteen years ago)

Didn't think I'd ever say this, but I'm currently a bit bored of zombies.

chap, Monday, 5 October 2009 14:20 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I've avoided a lot of the recent zombie fare. I haven't read any more than a sample chapter or two of Max Brooks' books, I haven't played Left 4 Dead (I has a PS3). This one looks like a lot of fun, though.

What I'm REALLY bored with at this point is vampires.

Adventures of Dog Boy and Frank Sobotka (B.L.A.M.), Monday, 5 October 2009 14:52 (fifteen years ago)

I thought this was cute, though Shaun of the Dead is a better Zom-Com imo.

Was not expecting the big Weird Al Yancovic cameo.

^ SPOILER! ^

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 5 October 2009 16:39 (fifteen years ago)

Zombies are dead to me. About a decade ago, I was a huge fan of zombie flicks, but it's hard now to even imagine getting excited about one. Too many of them, and too few that really understand the nature of the beast.

That's not just me saying that, that's the Pentagon. (contenderizer), Monday, 5 October 2009 16:42 (fifteen years ago)

we need moar werewolf flicks imo

A polar bear you can see in a snowstorm (rockapads), Monday, 5 October 2009 17:24 (fifteen years ago)

Doesn't somebody or other have a big wearwolf movie coming out this fall?

That's not just me saying that, that's the Pentagon. (contenderizer), Monday, 5 October 2009 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

Guillermo del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. Looks like ass.

yeah, that's it. and yeah, it does.

That's not just me saying that, that's the Pentagon. (contenderizer), Monday, 5 October 2009 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

This was fun. Weird Al where?

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 6 October 2009 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

dang this was a LOT of fun. not particularly effective as a horror movie (there are big chunks of the movie with no zombies) but it made me laugh a lot and the action scenes were great.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

does it hold a candle to Braindead (Dead Alive)? that is obv the gold standard of zomcom

kell surprise (country matters), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

^^ It is indeed: zombie children, zombie clergy, and the lawnmower. As far as a device for mass zombie killing, the lawnmower was very influential on future movies.

Althus (sarahel), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

it isn't really the same thing, like i said above zombieland isn't really much of a horror movie, it's more like a goofy action road-trip comedy that happens to have zombies in it.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

:/

Althus (sarahel), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 21:21 (fifteen years ago)

if you want dead alive just watch fucking dead alive, geez

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

will do!

Althus (sarahel), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

this was hilarious

RETARTED (HI DERE), Sunday, 18 October 2009 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

it was fun! when the gates of the hollywood mansion said "B.M." my first guess was that it would be bette midler. glad I was wrong.

fantastic, tasteful use of "For Whom The Bell Tolls" in the opening credits too

liked it enough that I won't take issue with the fact that if you shoot a control box on a ride that is using hydraulic power to hoist you safely above the gang of zombies, more than likely it will cause the ride to lose power and therefore drop you into the very gang of zombies you are attempting to avoid.

Metallica in the opening credits blew my mind.

Finally saw this, wish I would have seen it sooner. Very funny and major <3 for Emma Stone in this.

I saw this last night. I almost turned it off after Woody Harrelson had his first Twinkie fit. It got better but it was pretty average, imo. Cuet girl tho!

European Bob (admrl), Thursday, 22 July 2010 04:32 (fifteen years ago)

felt like i was watching an extremely long, superbowl-style commercial for twinkies, interrupted halfway through by a shorter superbowl-style ad for ghostbusters. in spite of that, opening credits were great and i had a good time up til the schmaltzy/pat ending.

i liked this movie well enough but it will never beat these twinkie commercials:

yeah this was very entertaining, surpassed my expectations. Jesse Eisenberg would've been better cast as one of the zombies, though, given his miniscule range of facial expressions and vocal inflections.

this. right here. is my. new LMBO (some dude), Thursday, 22 July 2010 13:30 (fifteen years ago)

nah eisenberg deadpan makes lols

two months pass...

it is kind of crazy that even in a trash-talkin "fun" zombie movie there is this unstoppable need for a sappy, traditional structure based on a tickbox checklist of "motivations" and ending with a closing credits kiss

would have been slightly redeemed if harrelson had actually sacrificed himself in the themepark kiosk like it seemed he was going to (all because of eisenberg's cold-as-ice comment that the girls "are photos in someone's wallet, too") but well i guess that version didn't focus-group as well

"nut up or shut up" is a pathetic catchphrase

however it was perfect new year's day viewing

emma stone reminds me uncannily of a certain lauren p, formerly of this bailiwick

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 12:31 (fourteen years ago)

best part was jesse throwing the toiletpaper roll at the attacking zombie girl's head

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

he has a TERRIBLE voice. they should have gotten a stunt narrator

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

^^^

washa flocka brain (some dude), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 13:38 (fourteen years ago)

maybe have it narrated by an older version of himself 25 years later and voiced by some familiar middle-aged actor, Wonder Years/How I Met Your Mother style

washa flocka brain (some dude), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 13:41 (fourteen years ago)

that would have helped. A LOT. honestly, how is this guy a hot property? his face is capable of one expression. his voice is DOA, swallowed somewhere around his epiglottis before it ever sees the light of day. it's like hollywood has these little cubbyholes into which only one actor is allowed to reside at any given time. time was, the young nerd role would have been filled by anthony michael hall. golden years!

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

look at me, I'm complaining about the acting in a movie called zombieland

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 14:02 (fourteen years ago)

Always thought Harrelson shd have gotten the girl, btw. Plenty of time for the scary/awesome younger one to grow up and fall for Mr Whatshisface "I'm so sensitive and also very, very weak."

Jesus Christ, the apple tree! (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

There's gonna be a sequel. I'm hoping it will be darker and more niche while still being funny

I can't complain about Zombieland 1 though

gravity explodes (CaptainLorax), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 19:12 (fourteen years ago)

Was originally supposed to be a tv show (its basically the first two episodes of the series). I wonder if it would have been as profitable/more profitable given the huge success of the Walking Dead..

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 20:04 (fourteen years ago)

Was originally supposed to be a tv show (its basically the first two episodes of the series)

This makes a tremendous amount of sense

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 6 January 2011 13:14 (fourteen years ago)

this was so much better than the walking dead

just sayin, Thursday, 6 January 2011 13:17 (fourteen years ago)

I enjoyed Zombieland but Shaun of the Dead is way better. Yes I am British.

thought zombieland worked very well on its own level, i like eisenberg.

There's something about the way his obvious nerdiness meshes with his permanent look of blank, cro-magnon befuddlement which I find incredibly unappealing

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 6 January 2011 13:59 (fourteen years ago)

well there was another little boy with a look of cro-magnon befuddlement once and you know who he grew up to be JESUS CHRIST
