Usually three to four times -- I brush after every meal.

Anatomy of a Morbius (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 16 August 2009 15:52 (sixteen years ago)

Once a day but really it should be twice as my teeth are prone to staining. Actually the only reason I brush my teeth at all is because my dentist is so condescending whenever he finds something wrong...

Master John of Scotland, alias Scotus (snoball), Sunday, 16 August 2009 16:04 (sixteen years ago)

Once every morning but I am trying to get in a routine of every night as well, or after big, potential bad breath meals, so about 10 times a week atm.

fruity gonzalo (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 16 August 2009 16:06 (sixteen years ago)

Twice a day. I always feel slightly guilty that it's not more often whenever I see co-workers hunched over the bathroom sink after lunch.

jaymc, Sunday, 16 August 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

Twice a day; after breakfast and before I leave the house in the morning, and every night before I go to bed. I also mouthwash probably 6 out of 7 mornings a week, and occasionally floss, too. My brother's had horrific problems through not looking after his teeth properly; I've never had a filling and don't intend to.

Sickamous (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 16 August 2009 16:37 (sixteen years ago)

I brush 2x/floss 1x daily -- honestly, seeing this thread is making me feel pretty good about my dental habits.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Sunday, 16 August 2009 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

I use mouthwash every day, and also floss every other day. I have loads of fillings - actually had another one last Wednesday.

Master John of Scotland, alias Scotus (snoball), Sunday, 16 August 2009 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

Generally twice a day, but if I go out or meet people in the evening I often brush again first. My teeth are in pretty nasty condition though (got a few fillings, no more major problems yet but I'm sure they're coming), probably because I drink way too many sugary drinks.

I don't floss enough either cz I think my teeth are unusually closely packed but I think there's another thread for that.

a passing spacecadet, Sunday, 16 August 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)

i thought brushing more than twice a day was actually bad for teeth, like bad for the enamel or something (and you're just supposed to rinse after eating between brushings)

where we turn sweet dreams into remarkable realities (just1n3), Sunday, 16 August 2009 16:53 (sixteen years ago)

as soon as I wake up and right before I go to bed. mouth feels super gross if I skip a single brushing.

caek, Sunday, 16 August 2009 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

First thing in the morning, last thing at night. In the middle of the night too if I get up for any reason - I hate the furry mouthed feeling. Will also brush before leaving the house, which now that I think about it means twice each morning. I use v little toothpaste though, the taste is too overpowering.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 16 August 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

Twice a day. In the mornings after I shower I brush with Toms of Maine. In the evening before bed, I waterpick, then floss, then Listerine, then brush with medicated flouride sensitive teeth toothpaste. I have to do this routine every night because my gums were getting into really bad shape and I had a couple roots exposed, which was getting rather painful.

Moodles, Sunday, 16 August 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

How logn do people brush for? Most of the time when I brush I use an electric toothbrush and brush for exactly two minutes; unless I'm pissed, when I use a normal toothbrush for about 1/3 the time.

Sickamous (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 16 August 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

Brushing right before I go to bed actually makes me less sleepy. I have a hard enough time sleeping as it is.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 August 2009 17:28 (sixteen years ago)

i also keep a toothbrush and toothpaste at the office and use them occasionally, if for whatever reason it seems necessary or prudent.

Tom Pagnozzi (Z S), Sunday, 16 August 2009 19:08 (sixteen years ago)

this is my eurotrashiness 'n' bad hygiene showing: once per day. :-( or rather :-S
i should be going to the dentist to replace a filling (500 euros! bleeding hell!) but i have a sinus infection and don't feel up to a 2.5 hour op.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Sunday, 16 August 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

Twice a day. And I have reached the grand old age of 39 with no fillings whatsoever. Despite having an incredibly sweet tooth.

Stone Monkey, Sunday, 16 August 2009 19:43 (sixteen years ago)

Bless the NHS - that last filling cost me £30.

Master John of Scotland, alias Scotus (snoball), Sunday, 16 August 2009 19:49 (sixteen years ago)

How the hell does it take two and a half hours to do a filling?

ailsa, Sunday, 16 August 2009 19:51 (sixteen years ago)

It's a special filling (hah! gotta be for that price). I'll probably get money back from my health insurance.

Why 2.5 hrs? It's a replacement and, also, it won't be silver (or metal or whatever the hell they normally use) but a special filling which will look real and last a lifetime.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Sunday, 16 August 2009 19:56 (sixteen years ago)

I think tooth-colored, light-hardened composite resins are SOP now. At least that's what I got when I had a couple of teeth filled last year. I don't think they take any more time than silver amalgam.

Generally 1x/day for me at the end of the day, but sometimes I brush in the morning after coffee, and usually before sexytime with the mrs.

Hugh Manatee (WmC), Sunday, 16 August 2009 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ That's what I had. The dentist always uses the resin type unless it's a big filling. The only trad amalgam ones I've had in the last five or six years are two big ones at the back. Everything else is resin apart from the few fillings I had over a decade ago.

Master John of Scotland, alias Scotus (snoball), Sunday, 16 August 2009 21:22 (sixteen years ago)

Oh I of course forgot to mention the filling is enormous. :-(((

WmC, it's apparently something new. I know the resin is SOP.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Sunday, 16 August 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

I had a replacement tooth-coloured filling done on one of my front teeth the other week and it took less than half an hour! It was to cover almost half of a tooth, where the tooth had basically broken off. This thing sounds like a way for a dentist to fleece you for lots more money than is strictly necessary.

ailsa, Sunday, 16 August 2009 21:31 (sixteen years ago)

I just brushed them :)

Anatomy of a Morbius (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 16 August 2009 22:12 (sixteen years ago)

So did I. Also I flossed them and used mouthwash. I mean my own teeth, not Alfred's teeth.

Master John of Scotland, alias Scotus (snoball), Sunday, 16 August 2009 22:15 (sixteen years ago)

At least twice a day, often three times. Floss once a day. Don't use mouthwash unless I have an ulcer.

De Mysteriis Dom Passantino (jim), Sunday, 16 August 2009 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

i take much more care of my teeth than i do the other parts of my body that will actually kill me if they fail.

"I am Jack's left incisor..."

Master John of Scotland, alias Scotus (snoball), Sunday, 16 August 2009 22:22 (sixteen years ago)

Morning and night with the Sonicare, Showerfloss in the morning, rinse well after lunch and snacks during the day and occasionally string floss. Haven't had a mouth ulcer since I switched to non-sls toothpaste a few years ago.

Jaq, Sunday, 16 August 2009 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

Once a day - no fillings in 20 years. The secret is to never ever eat sugary food or drink, and to swish out mouth with water after everything you eat.

Spy in the Cab Sav (Trayce), Sunday, 16 August 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

after 6 years of brushing 2x a day and occasionally flossing, but not seeing a dentist, i went back to the chair and found out i needed 12 fillings. i still haven't had them all done, but i've upped my home dental care game considerably.

a terrible camera... with fangs and shit... (ytth), Sunday, 16 August 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

Twice mostly. Probably average about 1.6 brushings per day.

craigboney (Mister Craig), Monday, 17 August 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

12 fillings!? thats insane.

Spy in the Cab Sav (Trayce), Monday, 17 August 2009 00:02 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, i was pretty shocked, since my teeth didn't really hurt and are generally not gross and yellow and falling out, which is pretty much my mental image of someone who has 12 cavities. but apparently i have porous teeth, which means i have to get professional cleanings 3x a year and have really good dental hygiene in between for my teeth not to disintegrate into mush.
