haha i thought this was ok!! definitely very uneven (in terms of tone, in terms of story, in terms of special effects quality...it was just kind of hit and miss all over), but it also had a handful of awesome moments and some vivid imagery. i went in w/ lowered expectations though.

to paraphrase a bit of particularly horrific dialogue, this movie was good...at being bad. and that's not good.

had such a hard time explaining the premise to my wife ("no they aren't alien vampires, they're angels." "they're... evil angels? I don't get it") tbf it really doesn't make any fucking sense

yeah, not only was it kind of a ripoff of every vampire and zombie movie ever, it was theologically nonsensical. i know it annoys my friends that i actually care about this, but seriously, there is an internal logic to christianity and when you take that away it makes no sense to keep using labels like "angel" for something clearly COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from an angel. *sigh*

like, evil angels are... demons, right? why send angels to destroy stuff, can't God just let the devil do it?

i didn't see this movie but i know from the previews that it had to be ballsucking bad.

luckily i didn't pay to see it in a theater. the best part was near the end where the torrented file suddenly went into russian overdub for a couple minutes

they need to recut the movie with Abe Vigoda playing one of the angeldemons

i, for one, am down with movies being "theologically nonsensical" as long as the nonsense involves psychopathic grannies and toddlers and classic b actors blowing them away.

if I want to watch b-movies that turn the story of God and theology on its head, give me Cohen's God Told Me To anyday of the week over this shit...

it was definitely too talky and (i think i put this on the shutter island thread) a friend noted the end was like a creed video, but omg anyone who can look at the violent parts of this movie and respond "OH, DO YOUR RESEARCH"...I'm sorry you bother to see movies where angels are holding machine guns on the poster.

granted, i came into it having read the D- review on AV club and only saw it because the place wasn't showing daybreakers as a matinee like I thought, but the long-windedness wasn't nearly as bad i'd been lead to believe (at least the angels kick the shit out of each other after all the blahbiddyblah), and I felt quite compensated for any deficiencies in the plot.

it's not like a sentence explaining why the fuck the baby means so much would have actually made the movie more or less entertaining.

I didn't think it was bad until near the end when they needed to start killing off tertiary characters (poor Dawn doesn't even get a death scene) and then had to swing things around so it wasn't anti-God.

Didn't understand why they had to go ahead and kill Gabriel - if God had come around to humanity's side after all, why didn't he just tell Gabriel to back the fuck off?

the problem with these "end of days" theological horror/drama/thrillers is that they tend to have to make God un-godlike to have any sort of chance to advance a plot (cough THE OMEN 3, DOGMA cough)
