For a second I thought you meant David Lynch and I'm all "Holy shit"

produced by him

Clarity. (I was thinking he was acting in it!)

What was Chloe Sevigny nominated for again?
― DavidM, Friday, 21 August 2009 18:31 (sixteen years ago)
i'm guessing Boys Don't Cry

this would be a good title for a great movie, if that makes any sense
I was underwhelmed by rescue dawn...if bad lieutenant is good, time to get excited

I am hoping to see both this and Bad Lieutenant at TIFF in a few weeks.

so excited to see this in a few hours!

My TIFF viewing of this film was thwarted by my going to Midnight Madness the previous night and seeing the worst POS ever. I slept through about half of it, but my friend loved it. Looking forward to a proper viewing.

What was the worst POS ever, out of curiosity? I am very excited to see this one; Michael Shannon might be my favorite actor around right now. I really didn't like (get?) "Bad Lieutenant," and I'm a pretty big Herzog apologist. But this one looks great.

I wonder why the decent quality trailers are getting removed from YouTube "due to terms of use violation"? Surely you'd want the trailer in as many places as possible? There's an almost pitch-black underexposed version on YouTube and a very interlaced/pixelated version on some horror site.

Saw this with other ILX people last night. I enjoyed it; Shannon is good as expected, most of the other actors had a weird stiff acting style but it was so pervasive that it made me wonder if it wasn't on purpose. Great music throughout though it was a little distracting to have the discordant score running through most of the first half of the movie, behind all the dialogue. A lot "artsier" than Bad Lieutenant; loved the parts when the actors would just freeze for a minute.

I need a screenshot of Udo Kier from this movie for the "old men who look like lesbians" thread.
razzle them, dazzle them

I was very disappointed. As I said in an email to a friend
I really didn't think the movie was very good! I really liked a lot of the visual stuff and some of the style of it (typical quirky Herzog/Lynch type stuff like all the huge birds and the weird house and the fake freeze-frame tableaux but I thought the story was weak as fuck.

Loved it. I'm coming very late to Werner Herzog, having seen his last four and nothing before, but there's something about his film-making that connects with me in some odd way I can't articulate. Chloë Sevigny is perfectly cast - that odd mix of empathy and blankness that reminds me of her bit part in Broken Flowers.
Suddenly horribly poignant moments amid the weirdness. Especially when he's telling her about the house he's going to buy. The beauty of the shots of the houses.
And God, the whole thing sounded wonderful – as great as a Lynch film. That score was amazing.

i'm thinking i'm gonna love this, can't wait to see it.

this was great. amazing music, beautiful pauses throughout.

i found it boring and overly weird, with some funny parts, and some interesting images.
found the use of caetano veloso cucurrucucu paloma a bit jarring because it's in hable con ella.

finally saw this tonight. overall pretty incoherent, but it had great music, profoundly odd moments, great actors, and some really funny lines, so i thought it was quite enjoyable.
i was hoping for more of this, though: "a horror film without the blood, chainsaws and gore, but with a strange, anonymous fear creeping up in you." (--herzog)
