lol i no give me a break
but holy fuck is martyrs disturbing. dont want to spoil it for anybody that hasnt seen it but the whole thing is n/l its not as gory as inside or even hostel for the most part but like irreversible which i guess it has some connections to its got a like 10-12 min sequence thats really hard to get thru. its def hard 2 overstate how riveting and fucked up this movie is
it also made me want 2 give irreversible another chance since it seems like a starting point for some of this stuff - that and trouble every day which i also havent seen. of the stuff i have seen ive only really liked them and high tension some of the others esp inside i thought were pretty dull
also maybe we could talk about how interested all these movies seem to be in violence against women altho i think "the ordeal" is supposed to subvert that? i no its pretty conscious but its also pretty unpleasant also i think theres a lot of political subtext to these movies - stuff like frontiers that other noe abt the butcher

huge subtext/overt text of horror for so many reasons. it's the only genre I really give a shit about so obv me being me I think about this q a lot but it's late & I'm exhausted but yeah, why is horror largely about torturing women/who has done interesting things with that a good q - right now I don't know who's doing interesting stuff but Tobe Hooper & Wes Craven both used to fuck around with it. it's like the template is "women must suffer at men's hands, often senselessly - work within that framework"

ugh I fucking hated Martyrs - pseudo-intellectual garbage. I much prefer the straight-up nastiness of Inside.

yah i think even in 2009 theres maybe sum interesting stuff to talk about w/ this movies - their relation to "french cinema" @ large & to american horror (lol sum 1 is making martyrs in english O_o) mb should have put p4k in the title?
one other current running thru a lot of these is home invasion/violating the sanctity of the home - kinda ties into the violence against women thing lol all those shots of the child in the womb and the womblike rooms of the house in insude. feel like a lot of these films are "introverted" & "interior" in a way a lot of am horror isnt violence is often out there lurking whereas the french are getting fukken attacked where they live alla time
also theres a lot of women hurting other women in these - altho theres like a dozen of these movies so mb lol @ tryna say too much

― Marcus Brody Ta-Dow! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Saturday, 22 August 2009 04:01 (sixteen years ago)
i dont think there are 20 of these tbh
ils (them)martyrsirreversiblecalviare (the ordeal)satanhigh tensionfrontier(s)trouble every dayÀ l’intérieur (inside)intimacy maybe i stand alone
and i guess la horde and the pack which are 2009 films and there are sum french horror movies like malfique which arent really part of this more "old-fashioned" or w/e

I would say baise moi prefigures all this somewhat! that's really all I got, I've been watching giallo & eighties horror mainly for the past couple years besides the predictable asian horror phase

the only 1 of these i've seen is high tension + it is notable for the ridiculously terrible ending
― just sayin, Saturday, 22 August 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)
Apparently "Demonlover" is part of this too but waht? that movie was fucking terrible.
I've only seen High Tension (garbage) and Martyrs (one of the top 5 horror films I've ever seen) and also Irreversible (not bad) but I want to see Inside too I think.
