If Crêpes doesn't win this by 40 votes then ILX has failed. Unless Galettes are some awesome Crêpe+ which I haven't discovered yet.

Drop scones from my GREAT grandmother's cast iron dropsconeulator FTW

Evren Kader (Masonic Boom), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)

Galette, whole wheat crêpe for savoury toppings, such a gruyere and morels or roquefort and walnuts.

Mornington Crescent (Ed), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)

tht looks nice

cozwn, Monday, 24 August 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)

surely the answer is the pancake which has the most butter and maple syrup on it

neat lung (╓abies), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:18 (sixteen years ago)

Hahaha! Um I don't know what most of those options are. Aren't drop-scones like...American biscuits? And silver dollars just a smaller version of whatever you're already having, as far as I can tell.

warmsherry, Monday, 24 August 2009 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

drop scones are to british pancakes what silver dollars are to american ones, although you have to make thicker batter for drop scones.

Mornington Crescent (Ed), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:26 (sixteen years ago)

where's the McGriddle option

in typical American excess I just thought about a burger between two pancakes, maybe with some bacon. and butter.

tony dayo (dyao), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:31 (sixteen years ago)

DIPPED IN MAPLE SYRUP FTW

neat lung (╓abies), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:31 (sixteen years ago)

yah i'm still not really convinced that these so-called "british pancakes" are anything more than crepes rebranded nationalistically a la freedom fries

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:33 (sixteen years ago)

They are thicker, you spread out the british ones by gravity alone but the franch use a spreader for extra thinness.

Mornington Crescent (Ed), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:35 (sixteen years ago)

the ones I just made *burp*

Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:48 (sixteen years ago)

You have now made me totally want to eat pancakes.

Evren Kader (Masonic Boom), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

No Emperor's Pancakes? WTF?

Alex in SF, Monday, 24 August 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

Also no Dutch Babies? Worst pancake poll ever.

Alex in SF, Monday, 24 August 2009 14:50 (sixteen years ago)

Crepes with ham, gruyere and wild mushrooms.

chap, Monday, 24 August 2009 14:55 (sixteen years ago)

You are a man after my own heart when you're not talking about Doctor Who, chap ;)

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:55 (sixteen years ago)

Doctor Who and food are pretty much all I talk about.

chap, Monday, 24 August 2009 14:58 (sixteen years ago)

Galette, whole wheat crêpe for savoury toppings, such a gruyere and morels or roquefort and walnuts.

Actually, proper Breton galettes are made with buckwheat flour.

(w/cotija cheese!)

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Monday, 24 August 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

No oatcakes. Fail.

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 24 August 2009 16:02 (sixteen years ago)

British pancakes should probably be English pancakes. The scotch have their own, and the welsh have crempogs.

crepey.

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Monday, 24 August 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

chapati

crabRCISE (gbx), Monday, 24 August 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

dosa!

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 24 August 2009 17:51 (sixteen years ago)

(I wouldn't vote dosa over british/english pancakes or crepes but they are often filled with delicious things so they deserve a mention)

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 24 August 2009 17:52 (sixteen years ago)

so obviously crêpes

crêpes w/ galette-type stuff inside > galettes

iatee, Monday, 24 August 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

I got bored of bad London crepe vendors (shout-out to the Hampstead guy in particular) in appx 1991, and will stan for US pancakes over crepes or Pancake Day cakes any day. Galettes are a different story, would have to put them on the savoury poll with dosas and chapati/poori.

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Monday, 24 August 2009 21:00 (sixteen years ago)

No pikelets? Or are pikelets the same as silver dollars (I have a feeling they might be). Pikelets are like mini pancakes but usually a little sweeter and aimed at kids.

Spy in the Cab Sav (Trayce), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)

Silver dollars are just tiny pancakes.

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 00:12 (sixteen years ago)

'crêpe nutella' with banana is surely the greatest snack food ever.

I agree with those who are freaked out by that sausage pancake on a stick.

Quick shout for the humble crumpet (if we're going to include pikelets...) with unwise amounts of butter melting through. Yum.

Daniel Giraffe, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 11:33 (sixteen years ago)

lunch will be - crepe w/gruyere, smoked salmon, portabello mushrooms

what happened? i am confused. (sarahel), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 11:35 (sixteen years ago)

Do blinis fall within the definition of pancake?

Daniel Giraffe, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 11:39 (sixteen years ago)

Whattabout latkes?

warmsherry, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 16:08 (sixteen years ago)

oh shit yeah potato pancakes are a huge omission

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)

For some reason I feel like potato pancakes aren't really pancakes? They're like a whole separate food group I think, they fulfill a different need.

Dr. Johnson (askance johnson), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

otm, i never feel pancakes and end up with latkes. they're part of the hashbrowns & fries genre.

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 16:28 (sixteen years ago)

Ahahahahahahha I can't believe my childhood reminiscing got 8 votes. The pancakes, however, are delicious.

The Lion's Mane Jellyfish, pictured here with its only natural predator (Laurel), Monday, 31 August 2009 23:06 (sixteen years ago)

no doubt.

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain;
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood,
From sea to shining sea.

Mr. Que, Monday, 31 August 2009 23:14 (sixteen years ago)

To celebrate, I'm having nice big fluffy American pancakes - with fresh wild blueberries from my backyard, for that personal touch - for dinner.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 31 August 2009 23:16 (sixteen years ago)

post pics of these pancakes please!

what happened? i am confused. (sarahel), Monday, 31 August 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

I'm sorry - I ate them all before I got back to the board. Maybe next time.

Also important: extra dark can't-buy-in-stores maple syrup. So glad my uncle still makes it so I can get grade B and below. Even Dark Amber just isn't maple enough.
