was never really a big fan of any of these guys' shows before (Wet Hot American Summer is pretty funny - but not just cuz of them)... but this seems more focused and funny than anything else they've done. Showalter especially.

I'm impressed by their decision to include a laughtrack

sike I'm actually deeply unimpressed by that decision

weird, just watched the "bunny stomping" clip on youtube and that was terrible.

i believe that's one of the "show within a show" bits. haven't seen a whole episode but i'd be pretty surprised if they included a laugh track on the "real" sections.

The first couple of episodes weren't as funny as the best Stella episodes, but I'm not counting the show out yet. I did like that sweatpants scene.

Also, I know a dude who plays one of the writers on the show-within-the-show.

the whole thing is a show within a show within a show. the laughtrack is just one element of this. When they're doing their "behind the scenes" stuff (ie, hanging out in the writers room, etc.) there is no laughtrack.

From the "intern" episode.

Wait, so I don't get it, is the "bunny stomping" scene supposed to be an intentionally unfunny parody of half-assed sketch comedy? It was ..... kind of LONG if that's what it was.

see, but now "butterly farting" has won me over again. I'm confused.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 26 August 2009 21:47 (sixteen years ago)

okay, here's how the episodes are structured:

- Michael and Michael have a "behind the scenes" scene that will establish the underlying plotline of the episode (ie, they get an intern, they go to a college town to perform a show, Michael stays over at Michael's house for a week because he's homeless, etc.)
- This storyline is intercut with scenes from their actual "show" which takes one of two forms: a kind of monologue where they directly address a studio audience about a particular subject (drugs, teen pregnancy, etc.) or a brief, previously recorded sketch.
