I haven't decided whether or not I'll even see this in the theater or wait for dvd, because Mike Judge's films so far have taken at least 3 viewings each to work on me. But this looks promising, at least.

Best of all, Judge dusted Beavis & Butthead off to do some viral promotion: http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid769343686?bctid=36552755001

Had to have been chopped to pieces in the editing room, right?

It felt like this was supposed to be Office Space 2, which is disappointing following Idiocracy, which took the regular guy thing and went in a completely different direction with it, obviously. No real laffs from me apart from the David Koechner scenes (cept for the last one, wtf why) and the 6-foot bong Affliction tee guy, but as stated, these Mike Judge movies are always slow burners so who knows if I'll feel up to watching it again on Comedy Central some Saturday afternoon in 10 years or not.

Reviews awfully middling at best, even compared to Idiocracy. Bateman predisposes me to avoid it.

I'll see this regardless. Mike Judge flicks always seem to have a couple few scenes and
images that hit the target so perfectly they pierce thru everything and lodge themselves in your skull.

it's a nice and very laid-back comedy but somewhat lackin' in the larfs. bateman is good as always but he's basically playing michael bluth.

on par with office space in lols, lots of texas in-jokes

well, one big one anyway, gene simmons' character is based loosely on jim adler, the texas hammer. the guy in 5 grindcore bands was also pretty typical of a lot of dudes i went to high school with, but not sure how texas-specific that is.

actually, scratch that, much funnier than office space, that last scene with koechner was fucking breathtaking

also, brad the gigolo seems to be baked from some of the leftover moron dough from idiocracy (def a good thing)

three months pass...

Lost my shit at the strike scene.

"I don't wanna work at Southwest, they make you do the limbo. I'm gonna be the laughing stock of the grindcore community."

And probably the only thing I've seen J.K. Simmons in where he hasn't had that taint of Vern Schillinger about him. Even in Juno he was more than slightly menacing. In this he's cuddly more than anything.

two weeks pass...

Supposedly when this was being casted the lawyer Joe Adler character was constantly being described as a "Gene Simmons type". A dozen or so actors read for the part but nothing clicked until finally in a sartorial moment, Judge & co. realized "wait, why don't we just get Gene Simmons?" He nailed the part and that was that...

Perfect movie to watch on Sunday evening. Liked it a lot (and yeah, a total slow burner)

two years pass...

i watched this movie when it came out and kind of forgot about it (other than the ben affleck's line "oh yeah my man brad crushes ass"), and watched it again this week. it was unsurprisingly more fun the second time. the annoying neighbor stuff is so true though, i actually found myself cringing at the screen.

i didn't check the credits but i'm pretty sure the other guy instigating the strike was judge.

it really seemed like, with the brad storyline, that maybe brad was doing some other person's wife and it was all a misunderstanding, but no, it was wiig he was doing.
