Roy Hodgson

Ismael Klata, Monday, 14 September 2009 16:37 (sixteen years ago)

i kind of love martin o'neill. he looks like the kind of guy who'd be hanging around a bookshop on a saturday afternoon reading about linux

jergins, Monday, 14 September 2009 16:38 (sixteen years ago)

it's between those two, isn't it

Zola

unban dictionary (blueski), Monday, 14 September 2009 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

Owen Coyle or Roy Hodgson.

ailsa, Monday, 14 September 2009 16:59 (sixteen years ago)

I can vouch for David Moyles being a good guy. A distant cousin of mine knew him when they were kids. He had to go to Liverpool with his son for a day last year and contacted Everton on the off-chance that he'd like to meet up after about thirty years, and Moyles took half-an-hour out his afternoon, invited them up to the training-ground and made sure they got a guided tour of the place.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 14 September 2009 17:17 (sixteen years ago)

What a ding dong doo.

...and it's good for the environment! (aldo), Monday, 14 September 2009 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

Owen Coyle or Roy Hodgson.

i was gonna vote for Zola, because who doesn't like Zola? But then i realised that he kind of reminded me of the special kid at school, the one who just kept smiling at everything. Then he started to remind me of Ben Stiller. Then i voted for Ancelloti, cos he likes farming animals and then eating them

merked, Monday, 14 September 2009 22:47 (sixteen years ago)

ok wow, zola/ben stiller is kinda blowing my mind.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 01:44 (sixteen years ago)

Don't follow the Premiership closely enough to vote confidently, but I'd take an educated guess at either Moyes or O'Neill.

Did lol at Phil "Dumbass" Brown.

martin or arsene, but i'd really like the option for my vote to register as -10 for benitez.

Amateur Darraghmatics (darraghmac), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 08:58 (sixteen years ago)

Never a frown with Phil Brown.

Don't Be A Ned Raggett (King Boy Pato), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 09:04 (sixteen years ago)

sir alex - amusingly mental
arsène - stubborn ideological twat
moyes - seems decent, good scary eyes
rafa - pissy little bitch
tony pulis - old-skool
mick mccarthy - shit player, shit manager
martin o'neill - I love MON
phil 'dumbass' brown - even more amusingly mental than Siralex
megson - bothered
owen coyle - meh
alex mcleish - Birmingham AND Rangers?
hodgson - witty, urbane, literary, bafflingly overlooked for all major jobs
mark hughes - coming into his own as a proper Premiership managerial menk
zola - Surely everyone loves Zola?
harry redknapp - he's given me too much comedy and too many good results to say a word against him right now
big sam allardyce - worse than Hitler
paul hart - I feel sorry for him
ancelloti - meh
steven bruce - seems decent
roberto martinez - bothered

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 09:07 (sixteen years ago)

It's a three way tie for me between MON, Hodgson and Zola. I can't decide. Moyes with an outside chance but nah.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 09:08 (sixteen years ago)

genuinely in tears laughing at 'no tambourines'.

anyway, rafa cos i'm biased otherwise it would've been woy.

or something, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 11:11 (sixteen years ago)

hodgson - witty, urbane, literary

i'm sure this is all true but saying so as such makes him sound like oscar wilde or something. the best thing about hodgson is the paternal british empire kinda pragmatism that comes with all that, the been around the world and ay ay ay but always just woy from cwoydon getting on with the bloody job.

great interview here: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/roy-hodgson-i-dont-believe-in-innovation-1677575.html

also here he is spraching a bit of deutsch with no fuss:

r|t|c, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 12:28 (sixteen years ago)

(ffwd to 3:25 on there.)

anyways, after all that i voted mick mccarthy just to be different.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 12:31 (sixteen years ago)

also tony pulis is not old-skool, he's just some leisure centre general manager type tosser. fuck him and his cap imo.

mcleish probably the worst though.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 12:38 (sixteen years ago)

Can't believe I called Moyes 'Moyles' upthread. Worst is any manager who has worn a headset. I'd also throw in any manager who wears a manager's jacket, only I think that would rule them all out.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

Allardyce and Brown are good value, the worst is Hughes speaking drivel from under his intense frown, full of the pretensions of command, and awkward to watch. Trying to think who I'd miss the most and perversely I think its Wenger, still miss Mourinho. Voted Bruce for being a superior product of the Ferguson school & not really knowing who else to pick.

did anyone really dislike Hughes before recent shenans? always seemed like a good guy to me

unban dictionary (blueski), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

He was a cunt at Blackburn who's team were possibly more horrible than the Walrus-era Bolton imo.

Like BANG! Bust 'em in the wang like it aint no thang (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

Blackburn... Bolton

I see a kicking Arsenal theme emerging.

astronimo domino (onimo), Thursday, 17 September 2009 07:05 (sixteen years ago)

nah, his blackburn were better than allardyce and souness eras, but he is definitely heading for being a cnt of the highest order now.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 September 2009 09:23 (sixteen years ago)

He was a cunt at Blackburn who's team were possibly more horrible than the Walrus-era Bolton imo.

Hi dere received footballing wisdom. Hughes's Blackburn weren't particularly thuggish and dirty in their latter days, he phased yer Andy Todds/Lucas Neills/Robbie Savages and they were quite a good attacking side in his last couple of seasons. It went from being 'Morgan Gamst Pedersen plus a load of brick shithouses' to a team that could actually play - Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Bentley when he was good etc.

Matt DC, Thursday, 17 September 2009 09:42 (sixteen years ago)

is there a received footballing wisdom thread?

Received wisdom about football

Matt DC, Thursday, 17 September 2009 10:00 (sixteen years ago)

it was a fairer game back when a leg break was a once-per-half occurrence.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 September 2009 10:02 (sixteen years ago)

Footballers' legs were made of sterner stuff in those days, not this modern rubbish that breaks at the drop of a hat

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan an' aw noo (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 September 2009 10:04 (sixteen years ago)

we didn't have any of this playstation nonsense bill, which explains why footballers were much better then.

Steve Bruce was robbed. And damn, never knew how many Arsenal fans there are here.

Like BANG! Bust 'em in the wang like it aint no thang (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 17 September 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

thought there'd be one harry fan here but hey

jergins, Thursday, 17 September 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

I forgot to actually vote. +1 for Owen Coyle. Thought Hodgson would have romped this, or at least made it a better fight. Bet Arsene's comedy comments this week were a calculated effort for ILX votes, tbh.

For reference: It [the challenge on Van Persie] looks very bad. You ask 100 people, 99 will say it's very bad and the hundredth will be Mark Hughes. and "Of course I back him," the manager said. "In football, everybody is free to have an opinion. If somebody stamps on your head in that way, you wouldn't say: 'Thank you very much. Can I turn the other cheek?' Only Jesus Christ did that."

ailsa, Thursday, 17 September 2009 23:15 (sixteen years ago)

did not vote for arsene (not sure i voted at all tbh) but bahahahahaha.
