Kinda willing to see the Campion film, actually.

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 02:24 (fifteen years ago)

There's nothing I want to see even half as much as I want to see the Tom Ford softcore gay porn.

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 02:26 (fifteen years ago)

OK wait -- is that an adap of Isherwood's A Single Man, or am I confused?

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 02:27 (fifteen years ago)

(also there was a guy on a gay BB i post on a few years ago wh went by 'Tom Ford', and I had no idea he was namechecking some designer)

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 02:29 (fifteen years ago)

I think so, yeah.

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 02:30 (fifteen years ago)

thx!

so, it's the fucking designer, right? (remember, Joel Schumacher used to dress store windows ... the Peter principle?)

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 02:34 (fifteen years ago)

Yes, but at least Tom Ford admits he likes good looking guy-on-guy action.

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 02:42 (fifteen years ago)

mountain G.O.A.T. (s1ocki), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:25 (fifteen years ago)

mountain G.O.A.T. (s1ocki), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:25 (fifteen years ago)

22 movies and counting so far.

mountain G.O.A.T. (s1ocki), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:25 (fifteen years ago)

Plz to report that the Mo'Nique perf is the real deal?

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:31 (fifteen years ago)

haven't seen it yet

mountain G.O.A.T. (s1ocki), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:32 (fifteen years ago)

something about the fact that the title of the movie is PUSH BASED ON THE NOVEL BY PRECIOUS has kept me away

mountain G.O.A.T. (s1ocki), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:32 (fifteen years ago)

highlights for me: bad lieutenant, first 10 mins of antichrist (and the fox), leaves of grass, glorious 39, bright star, enter the void (no shit), a prophet (if it were only 30 mins shorter :( )

even the terry gilliam was dece

mountain G.O.A.T. (s1ocki), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

survival of the dead sucked balls tho :(

mountain G.O.A.T. (s1ocki), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure I'll mostly hate Precious, but I'm also pretty sure I'll end up thinking Mo'Nique's perf is all-time.

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 03:45 (fifteen years ago)

enter the void (no shit)

rad!

gestaltohulkington (latebloomer), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 04:48 (fifteen years ago)

cool. but they are both, in their differing ways, NUTS.

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 04:51 (fifteen years ago)

I mean, I couldn't even hate the shits in the Film Forum audience for laughing at Herzog's narration in the South Pole movie.

(however, The White Diamond is probably in my top 50 of the '00s)

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 04:52 (fifteen years ago)

that's why interviewing them (separately) was great!

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 04:54 (fifteen years ago)

also i think you are meant to laugh at at least some of the narration in all of his films. he is a really funny guy. that stuff is definitely done with a level of self-awareness/sense of humour.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 04:54 (fifteen years ago)

was kind of underwhelmed by VINCERE today.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 04:55 (fifteen years ago)

have you seen Police, Adjective?

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 17 September 2009 03:56 (fifteen years ago)

i'm seeing it today! stoked

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:18 (fifteen years ago)

also interviewing marco bellochio. though TBH was underwhelmed by vincere.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:18 (fifteen years ago)

did anyone see The Road?

Where is Stephen Gobie? (Dandy Don Weiner), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:21 (fifteen years ago)

yes. it was more like the choad iirc

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:22 (fifteen years ago)

man so awesome you interviewed herzog!!!!

Mr. Que, Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:26 (fifteen years ago)

made my week for sure.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:38 (fifteen years ago)

glad to know that he's funny too. the south pole movie especially, when that penguin starts marching away towards the mountains was 100% hilarious

Mr. Que, Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:42 (fifteen years ago)

he really is a funny dude. and super warm and charming. i did the interview with a couple of other douchey journalists asking dumb questions at the table too and he deflected them perfectly w/o being mean... it was quite a feat actually. like he can tell you you're dumb to your face and make you feel good about it.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

plz to know the dumb questions

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:58 (fifteen years ago)

because it looks like a dumb movie, frankly

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:58 (fifteen years ago)

well i mean questions by ppl who obv didnt see the movie and didnt really know who he was, like you can tell they just looked at his imdb and were like "oh you've made a lot of movies, can you tell us... what's up with that?"

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

the movie is kind of great tbh

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

I'm sure I'll love it, but I tend to like dumb movies by smart people.

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Thursday, 17 September 2009 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

i think you will love it

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

From some of the reports, I almost wish I was there for this one, but I'm sure all the ones I want to see will trickle down here eventually.

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Thursday, 17 September 2009 15:17 (fifteen years ago)

I had to come back yesterday. Didn't get to see "Lieutenant" but I did see "My Son, My Son..." which I really enjoyed.

s1ock were you at the "Trash Humpers" screening by any chance? good times.

Simon H., Thursday, 17 September 2009 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

also I had the bright idea of avoiding Survival of the Dead but still wound up at Bitch Slap, which I'm sure was many times worse.

The Loved Ones, on the other hand...that kicked ass.

Simon H., Thursday, 17 September 2009 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

The film festival annoyed me this year in a way it never has before. It's been trending this way for a little while now, but I think this might have been the year where it completed the transition from celebration of film to embarrassing celebrity worship. This thread is the first thing I think I've read where people are actually talking about movies instead of what George Clooney is wearing or what party Matt Damon will be attending tonight. The first 10 minutes of all the local news broadcasts look more like Entertainment Tonight than actual news programs.

King of Snake (j-rock), Thursday, 17 September 2009 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

anyone care about this story?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/6202117/Jane-Fonda-abandons-protest-against-Israel-at-Toronto-film-festival.html

The actress and veteran peace activist initially joined a group denouncing the event as propaganda for Israel after wading into a row over the decision to choose Tel Aviv as the subject of the first of a series of "City to City" showcases at the festival.

The British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, Jerry Seinfeld, Lenny Kravitz and Natalie Portman have signed an open letter in support. But Fonda joined the British director Ken Loach, Julie Christie and Harry Belafonte among others in claiming that the festival organisers have fallen victim to lobbying by Israel.

thomp, Thursday, 17 September 2009 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

related (sorry if I'm spamming:)

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/movies/portman-speaks-out-against-protest-director-taps-nasa/article1290783/

In a roundtable interview yesterday morning for her new film Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, Natalie Portman explained why she signed a letter in support of Tel Aviv's inclusion in TIFF's City to City program - a choice that sparked a protest from other filmmakers.

"I just think the protest was very poorly considered," the Jerusalem-born actress said.

"I'm not saying Israel is beyond criticism, because there's plenty in Israel's politics that you can criticize. It's just, why boycott artists? It's ridiculous. If you want to talk about applauding places that are built on suffering, the United States was built on the genocide of 40 million native Americans. Are we going to boycott American films?"

"How about those slavery years?" Don Roos, the film's writer-director, piped in.

"Yeah, that slavery was awesome too," Portman said.

thomp, Thursday, 17 September 2009 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

film festival was a bit annoying this year in general for a bunch of reasons. i'm so effing wiped.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 22:33 (fifteen years ago)

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 22:33 (fifteen years ago)

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 22:45 (fifteen years ago)

jed_, Thursday, 17 September 2009 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 September 2009 23:08 (fifteen years ago)

jed_, Thursday, 17 September 2009 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Friday, 18 September 2009 04:31 (fifteen years ago)

things I'm doing differently next year: see midnight madness movies at afternoon screenings; go to the cheaper, better-populated bar I was directed to on my last day; fewer "cold" viewings; bring a posse.

Simon H., Friday, 18 September 2009 05:40 (fifteen years ago)

you know what dude

it's so worth seeing the MM ones AT midnight. much better crowd. i actually prefer seeing publics whenever poss cuz they're less full of jaded blackberrying curmudgeons. get a better response.

gonna spend my last real day of TIFF (besides closing thing tomorrow) checking out the apichatpong installation and seeing "to the sea" and "l'enfer de henri-georges clouzot."

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Friday, 18 September 2009 15:24 (fifteen years ago)

what's the installation like? Report.

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Friday, 18 September 2009 15:29 (fifteen years ago)

MM crowd = Fantasia crowd (albeit less disruptive), which is fun, but I can wait for Fantasia. my main problem was going to an MM screening, taking an hour to get back to St. Clair West where I was staying, getting to sleep at 3-3:30 AM and having to get up for a 9am press screening. (also, I only had rush vouchers, not a proper press pass, meaning I had to arrive pretty damn early at most screenings to be guaranteed a seat.)

Simon H., Friday, 18 September 2009 15:30 (fifteen years ago)

everything i saw today was awesome and beautiful :D

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Saturday, 19 September 2009 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

and i interviewed christopher plummer.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Saturday, 19 September 2009 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

could you hear the sound of mucus when he inhaled?

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 19 September 2009 00:39 (fifteen years ago)

well how am i supposed to answer THAT.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Saturday, 19 September 2009 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

while plucking edelweiss?

I saw him play Iago opp James Earl Jones.

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 19 September 2009 00:42 (fifteen years ago)

i would have liked to have seen that.

fountain bleaut (s1ocki), Saturday, 19 September 2009 00:43 (fifteen years ago)
