Ewww, vegan brownie. Yuck. Is there carob up in that bitch?

First of all, there was no sign that said "vegan brownie". It just said "frosted brownie". as in chocolate frosting. cuz i wanted something yummy to go with my coffee cuz i'm falling asleep.

It was, like, kinda sweet. But sweet in a "good for you" sweet way. like, off-sweet. kinda like eating a cookie and then finding out that it's a "diet" cookie.

Bad milk.

I ate gluten-free brownies a couple days ago. I wouldn't have eaten them by themselves, but the ice cream one top made them acceptable.

I always feel like a victim of false advertising when that happens. If it's some kind of dietary-restriction Frankenbrownie, please tell me.

(I guess that's partly a personal issue -- I also get unduly annoyed by Caesar salads, Reuben sandwiches, and Eggs Benedict that are served in non-classic ways without advance notification)

nabisco, Monday, 21 September 2009 21:44 (fifteen years ago)

i'm surprised that's legal in new york, to do that.

cinnamon-flavored instant oatmeal. was out of my 'origina' non-flavored kind, and figured would be better to eat the cinnamon stuff than skip breakfast altogether. I was wrong. cloyingly sweet and just ICK

VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 21 September 2009 21:46 (fifteen years ago)

actually I think non-standard Reubens and Eggs Benedict are more common here, since they're served more places and restaurants want to put their own special spin on them

I do not want anyone's special spin on Eggs Benedict, just the best possible ingredients served by a chef with the presence of mind to at least heat the fucking muffin.

and not overcook the egg. tough yolk in Benedict is GROSS

VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 21 September 2009 22:05 (fifteen years ago)

The existence of this thread is kinda weird, cause I went out for lunch a little while ago, got bahn mi from my favorite place, and then couldn't eat it because chicken in it was mushy and weird and the bread was creepily soft -- they have off days like anyone, but this one was just nasty. I hope they never serve anything like that to anyone who hasn't had bahn mi before.

nabisco, Monday, 21 September 2009 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

What magic gives the Benedict Fail an overcooked egg and and underwhelming muffin? Because it somehow defies logic.

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Monday, 21 September 2009 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

Hey I just had a bahn mi sandwich for lunch... and it was, eh, ok. Actually sometimes their sandwiches are kinda gross, but it's close and cheap.
The bread is never creepily soft though. I kinda wish it was for once.

you wouldn't think bahn mi would be something that'd have massive consistency problems, but this place by my office swerves from super-delicious to barely edible -- I really don't get it

nabisco, Monday, 21 September 2009 22:34 (fifteen years ago)

a shrimp in my laksa :(

cozwn, Monday, 21 September 2009 22:39 (fifteen years ago)

i thought that was an ingredient of laksa!

once i got a pre-made sandwich from whole foods and found it inedible because the chicken seemed really... old. i can't describe it, but if you've had old chicken you'll know what i mean. i think i threw it out and went to the subway across the street.
