Hey Dummy! It's the ILX Decade End TV Poll Nominations Thread!!!!!!!!

Message Bookmarked
Bookmark Removed

I was in a shitty mood yesterday so I forgot to start this.

1 month from today to discuss and nominate.

7 nominations each.

Can be anything that has been first broadcast in the decade. Shows that started in the 90s but showed original episodes in the decade count. 1 off specials count, although I'm not sure about specific things like individual sporting games - how do American's treat the Superbowl for example?

I'll try and tell people if they've nominated something that's already been named, although Ctrl+F is your friend.

Last of all, enjoy. Well until someone brings up racism on telly and it all goes downhill from there.

yeah, i knew i was missing out on something ahead of 24, and that something was 30 rock.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:13 (fifteen years ago)

i just presumed other people would vote for important things like the wire and just went with things i liked but people might forget. and 30 rock.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:18 (fifteen years ago)

tactical voting in ilx polls is a disease we must fight vigorously imo.

Surprised it took a different thread but I always know you'd be the first to sb me darragh :)

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:28 (fifteen years ago)

x-post Nah, I'm not a fan of SBing and I mean he doesn't have to like PE I'm just shocked!

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:29 (fifteen years ago)

I liked it and I'm glad it existed. I just bored very quickly. It's like Peter Jackson movies "oh wow more people walking over a gorgeous landscape. great."

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:30 (fifteen years ago)

Quit while you're ahead Samuel or I may considering heeding D's advice.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:31 (fifteen years ago)

can everything on the Top 10 TV Shows of the decade thread just automatically be nominated (even if not mentioned here)?

unban dictionary (blueski), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:32 (fifteen years ago)

That's a good question. Thinking about it - I don't get this thread. Isn't that what we've just done with the other one? I'm confused but I'm still half asleep so maybe it's just me.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

Why not. I'll go make the list. Wow I'm bored.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

you don't have an SB yet? bentdner comments alone make that a shocking fact.

Can be anything that has been first broadcast in the decade.

Why limit it to shows which were first run, what about ones which started in the 90s or earlier?

Terminator Eggs (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:45 (fifteen years ago)

that started in the 90s but showed original episodes in the decade count

Jimenez, Jio, Giovannagetti, and Doug (onimo), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:49 (fifteen years ago)

ok yeah the size of this list from the other thread is making this one pointless. once i finish it i'll keep this open for a couple more days just in case any wants to add anything (i haven't seen the simpsons yet, for example) and then we'll just do it properly from there.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:51 (fifteen years ago)

ppl should really only get 1 nomination, everything will get covered that matters, let's face it.

Feel free to tell me what's missing and nominate some more stuff, or what off the list isn't a real tv show. I think I got everything though. And then we can talk balloting.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:44 (fifteen years ago)

Noticed v. little soaps or cartoons/kids tv. Is that because they suck now or because no-one here watches them?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:45 (fifteen years ago)

soaps suck. is crazytown in there?

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:49 (fifteen years ago)

Of course soaps suck but they are addictive and thought they might get a nomination or two. No crazytown. I'll add it to el giant list with qi post-lunch.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:51 (fifteen years ago)

i like crazytown.

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 12:55 (fifteen years ago)

cheers a hoy hoy. Please to add Dead Like Me (which barely missed my top 10) as well, tq.

do web-only shows count? because Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is one of my favourite things ever, but I wouldn't know if it counts as "a real tv show" or not. Won a Creative Arts Emmy last week, if that helps.

Roz, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:03 (fifteen years ago)

hmm roxy's 11th choice getting on the list. gerrymandering imo

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:05 (fifteen years ago)

More the merrier, assuming you can win in fistycuffs against ol' d-mac. Also not against web-only shows, especially when they are as good as Dr. Horrible

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:11 (fifteen years ago)

probably not worth nominating patchy UK comedies i liked e.g. Absolute Power, My Life In Film

unban dictionary (blueski), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:19 (fifteen years ago)

These are all the shows I'd thought of putting on a little personal list that were never posted to the other thread:

Ace of Cakes
Andy Richter Controls The Universe
Behind The Music
The Corner
Dirty Jobs
Everybody Loves Raymond
Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends
Grounded For Life
Jackass
Late Night with Conan O'Brien
The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
Late World With Zach
Meerkat Manor
Mythbusters
Reaper
Rock Of Love
The Simpsons
Slings & Arrows
Tool Academy
Two And A Half Men

If you want to still limit my 'nominations' to 7 after that idea went out the window, I'll narrow it down. But then, I have no idea how many shows we'll be allowed to put on our ballots, and since I'm not sure any of these would make my top 10 most of those suggestions are admittedly not super urgent.

Autogoon Almanac (some dude), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:26 (fifteen years ago)

nevermind The Corner was in there, I didn't see it when I scanned it

Autogoon Almanac (some dude), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:29 (fifteen years ago)

I'm a rubbish taskmaster, they can all stay. I'm also going to add Beauty and the Geek and Big Bang Theory.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 13:33 (fifteen years ago)

ha, I almost put in Big Bang Theory but after I already had Two And A Half Men I didn't wanna go all Lorrestan

Sure. Just name stuff and I'll put it in until... Thursday? I think we've got the bulk of things covered.

There are roughly 150 things in the original list before added noms, so how do people think we should vote for on the ballots? 25? 50? 150?

And is there an accepted way of figuring out points for votes in ilx polls?

the amazing race

gilmore girls

freaks & geeks

scott seward, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

and i didn't vote for my favorite cartoons like flapjack and chowder.

scott seward, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

or stuff that is too 90's-ish like the simpsons. even freaks & geeks kinda reminds me of the 90's more than this decade, but i couldn't leave it out.

scott seward, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

Ok, the actual poll will be a top 50. Everyone votes for, say, 20 then? And then points allocated from 200 for 1st, 190 for 2nd etc? or should each favourite get more points waited in their favour?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago)

That sounds fine to me, although I'd rather 25 for ballots than 20.

Autogoon Almanac (some dude), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

Ok. 1st - 250, 2nd - 240 etc. with 25? Everyone cool with that? I'll start it on Thursday.

xhuxk, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 17:55 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, everything on the long list (stolen from the top ten shows of the decade thread) is already nominated.

Okay, most of my top choices are already up there. But here are seven more that don't look like they've been nominated yet:

Rescue Me
Army Wives
Weeds
Swingtown
Veronica Mars
Ugly Betty
Everybody Hates Chris

xhuxk, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

'Twas going to start the poll on Thursday because 1) I can't be bothered at the moment and 2) I'm busy tomorrow dealing with my drunk mum.

Monk

xhuxk, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

good call w/ Everybody Hates Chris

about 80% of That 70s Show's run was this decade, so I think I'll throw that in the running too.

Yes and it's probably the best thing to come out of the Canadian television industry in quite a long time. Season two begins tonight, you should see if it can be watched online? It's on the CBC, http://cbc.ca. Basically the girl starts going to therapy and her psychiatrist has the ability to send her back through time to relive/fix bad decisions. Sounds cheesy but it's pretty cool, I stopped watching live 1/2 way through season one because they randomly re-scheduled it to air against LOST :(
