New Vegemite puts Kraft in pickle

It was never going to be easy tampering with a food spread adopted as a culture icon in Australia and New Zealand.

But when Kraft, makers of Vegemite, chose a name for a new variation - iSnack2.0 - public distress forced an embarrassing backtrack.

Kraft had chosen the name after asking for suggestions from the public, for a new, more creamy, cheesy Vegemite.

Three days later, the name has been ditched after complaints it was "the worst name ever" and "unAustralian".

I figured it was going to usher in a new era of businesses and products randomly named i-(insert random title here) much as the 90s saw a proliferation of e-(insert random title here) businesses. Extra marks when they added .com to the business name as well. Was this a global phenomenon or did it onlly happen in rancid backwater Dunedin?

The Brisbane Times reported the product was awarded "Epic Fail" fail status on the internet, just while we are on the subject of tragic bandwagons. Well, thanks for that insight & explanation of yoof kulcha, also for alerting me to a hot new meme I need to get a t-shirt for.

For a second I thought you meant they'd renamed it "Epic Fail"
