Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Worst title for a film in a long time, but still a pretty entertaining and (shudder) heartwarming flick.

I can't imagine watching it in 2d. The 3d is unparalleled to date (though Toy Story 3d versions come out soon and could dethrone this).

For a PG date movie, this was good. Exciting and wacky enough for kids, but some definite subtext humor aimed at the nostalgic adult.

I have to admit, I ignored this completely til I saw Rotten Tomatoes giving it 80%.

My only reasons for wanting to see this are:

a) Bill Hader
b) Giant food raining from the sky

But I feel those are very, very valid reasons.

My favorite movie of the year so far, and Nate's right: best nu-3D yet, by a big margin. Trippy as hell, too. Probably the most psychedelic kid's flick I've seen since the old Willie Wonka thing.

This film definitely surpassed my (low) expectations even though, as my son pointed out about a million times while watching, it was completely different from the source material.

I enjoyed all the goofy inventor stuff. Wasn't as jazzed about the over-the-top ending.

Ending ending (with the deluge and great escape, etc.) was anticlimactic (with the exception of Mr. T's wild ride), but it was short, and everything leading up to it was incredible. Chicken Brent!

Spoiler: deluge + escape

More anti-fat-American messages too. Can't ever get enough of those. Though it does seem very pro-meat.

Oops, I'm a sucker for 3d films but I'd been kind of "ehh" about this after seeing the trailer; now you guys have piqued my curiosity, except apparently the 3d run has just ended here.

(Next up is Toy Story in 3d, which sounds good to me but the other half hates Toy Story... hmm, who else can I drag along?)

I thought the movie felt about 30 minutes too long, and my daughter was often pretty bored (and annoyed by the 3-D glasses). But for a movie that's little more than funny throwaway gags - food coma! monkey poop! - it had more than its share of moments. Could have sworn James Caan was James Gandolfini until I saw the credits.

BTW, I know lots and lots of other parents getting tired of this 3-D nonsense. The (lil) kids don't like it and don't want it!

I watched this on a plane and found it surprisingly cute and charming - definitely beat out the other selection, Monsters Vs. Aliens. Agreed that "Cloudy..." was a little long, and there were some bits that just didn't work for me (eg Mr. T doing his schtick) but it's a nice little story and a few things genuinely cracked me up. Dunno why but the monkey translator running gag was just great, how the monkey is always chiming in with these really unhelpful but excited monkey-level thoughts. "STEVE!" The movie kinda peaks with the opening montage of failed inventions, but overall this is fine fare, if I ever had kids I would have no problem renting this for 'em.

This was surprisingly well done. It had a ton of funny jokes, a nice & cartoony visual style, and even the annoying didactic "why doesn't dad love me" angst had a successful payoff. It was a fun, decent little movie – definitely the best non-Pixar CGI animated film yet (not to damn it with faint praise).

Only seen it on DVD, thought it was okay, prefer Aliens vs Monsters tho.

Abbott OTM. It seemed pretty under-rated and probably passed a lot of ppl by. I really, really enjoyed it and wasn't particularly expecting to.

loved this movie to death - way, way better than monsters vs. aliens (which was pretty good, don't get me wrong). while the storyline was predictable and the moral lessons obvious, i loved the characters, the dialogue and the look of everything. romance and family angst were well-handled, i laughed my ass off, and it managed to be both kid's flick charming and indie-quirky without sinking in grating cutie-pie sentimentality. plus some genuinely bizarre & imaginative detailing: the swollen mayor, chicken brent, food-encrusted god machine, jello fantasy, etc.

Just watched this, contendizer completely OTM.

Favourite visual gag: the payback of the throwaway gag of remote controlled walking TV set from the first invention montage as the walking TV set looted a man from the store while all the men were looting TV sets.
