Based on a non-fiction book of the same name and destined to be the most misspelled marquee title ever!

Why are they getting a Scot to play an American character based on a real English reporter?

this must be what FAIL is really like (ledge), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

stop complaining, we let a British dude play Batman.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 6 October 2009 20:23 (fifteen years ago)

not so great.

Simon H., Tuesday, 6 October 2009 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

I mean the movie, not Batman.

Simon H., Tuesday, 6 October 2009 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

Jon Ronson should be pretty pumped that Ewan McGregor is playing him, regardless of the nationality he's portrayed as in the film.

"Hey nerdy looking dude, we're going to make your character an American"
"What!! That is atrocious! How dare you?!"
"Don't worry we're casting Ewan McGregor!"
"OIC NM."

Alex Android (Viceroy), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 22:25 (fifteen years ago)

clooney's american accent good, mcgregor's american accent abysmal

conrad, Tuesday, 6 October 2009 22:29 (fifteen years ago)

this movie is pretty fun, not really great and the story they tack in is pretty dumb, but a lot of good LOLs

the book is brilliant, well worth reading - the tv documentaries he made for it and his previous book 'them' are around on torrent sites and well worth watching.

what do you mean by 'destined to be the most misspelled marquee title ever'?

The Men Who Stare at Goatse.cx

Or even "The Men Who Star In Goatse.cx"

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 7 October 2009 10:18 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not sure how you would accidentally add a period, a C and an X to a large marquee but I just wanted to say that this poster does not flatter McGregor's actually quite robust jawline.

I have very much wanted to read this book for a long time!

I will be there to see this. That is all.

Hey Jude, Tuesday, 27 October 2009 18:55 (fifteen years ago)

very unfunny

Your Favorite Saturday Night Thing (Dr Morbius), Friday, 30 October 2009 02:02 (fifteen years ago)

I liked it. Start to finish, except for some brief discomfort midway through thanks to the Fort Hood incident.

But I anticipate haters. Bring it on, dudes. Just remember: I can kill you with my mind.

Hey Jude, Saturday, 7 November 2009 02:08 (fifteen years ago)

shoulda stopped the screenwriter with their minds.

Your Favorite Saturday Night Thing (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 7 November 2009 03:23 (fifteen years ago)

Mwahahahaha.

Are you feeling sleepy? ;D

Hey Jude, Saturday, 7 November 2009 16:41 (fifteen years ago)

Jon Ronson is currently speaking to Alex Jones on his radio show and he's being subtly hilarious.

James Mitchell, Monday, 9 November 2009 19:14 (fifteen years ago)

Bloody hell, Jones is defending Hitler.

James Mitchell, Monday, 9 November 2009 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

I liked the book but I think I'll wait and rent this

dmr, Monday, 9 November 2009 21:00 (fifteen years ago)

saw this last night. it was funny, i guess, but a little disappointing... the trailer shows most of the funniest bits.

DAN P3RRY MAD AT GRANDMA (just1n3), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 03:43 (fifteen years ago)

WASN'T FUNNY

Your Favorite Saturday Night Thing (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe it wasn't supposed to be funny. Maybe it was dead serious.

BTW, you need to clean up that mess on the counter.

Hey Jude, Tuesday, 10 November 2009 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

really not good but every actor who isn't failing at an american accent (was Ewan hired just for the jedi meta?) comes off ok.

da croupier, Tuesday, 10 November 2009 16:55 (fifteen years ago)

Jedi meta very slappable

Your Favorite Saturday Night Thing (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

This is weird, but I didn't even notice McGregor was doing a poor job with the American accent, and I'm generally *very* sensitive to that sort of thing. He was doing very much of a 1980s newscaster "General American" accent, which very few Americans actually have. But it's the one we're presented with as "our accent," so we just sorta accept it.

For the record, as a speech student in the 1970s, I had to learn the General American accent, so I know of what I speak.

P.S. I'm a U.S. Southerner, and I cringe at nearly every "Southern" accent in the media, so I'm aware of the phenomenon.

i liked this. was wondering how the rotten tomatoes thing was so low for it because uh its just a ok comedy yall and then i saw my first few quotes of "how when war and awful things rage in iraq can someone make little of it by blah blah blahg" bullshit and had an OIC moment.
