but i love them all

if Hennessey doesn't walk this, some people stuck with this franchise a good decade after it's sell-by date.

xp uh i don't think that's an either/or

goole, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 14:55 (fifteen years ago)

iirc wasn't that lesbian thing out of nowhere?

Andrew Kornfan, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 15:04 (fifteen years ago)

not entirely -- i seem to recall serena having some sort of implied history with someone -- a defending lawyer lady, maybe? that she had gone to school with? i forget.

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

ah okay. i've never followed an l&o religiously (haven't had to, it's on constantly) so i wouldn't be aware of that but i remember television without pity tore that shit up

Not necessarily true; you can make an argument for both Jamie and Abbie.

carey lowell is underrated!

the last two are good but it's like uh huh dick wolf is basically whiney g isn't he

goole, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 15:16 (fifteen years ago)

as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap (HI DERE), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

she looks like an alien but i sure wouldnt "object" to her bringing "criminal proceedings" against "me"

Bobby Wo (max), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 15:24 (fifteen years ago)

I'm kinda tempted to go for Borgia. That's not even a sympathy vote for her sad end. She was a nice new spin on their ADA model.

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 15:38 (fifteen years ago)

I dig that about TV, how if you misjudge a contract negotiation you will wind up in the trunk of a Russian mobster's car

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 15:41 (fifteen years ago)

paul robinette is underrated

omar little, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

I love when Robinette shows up as a defense attorney.

tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 17:37 (fifteen years ago)

Robinette in Logan's leather jacket = classic.

tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

Ricahrd Brooks released an album called Smooth Love ?!?!?!

tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 17:48 (fifteen years ago)

connie is amazingly hot. definitely would be a contender for this poll is L&O hasn't just been totally ridiculous for the last several years

Nhex, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 19:26 (fifteen years ago)

i would definitely prefer claire or jamie to prosecute on my behalf, if i was murdered

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 19:32 (fifteen years ago)

That "is this because I'm a lesbian" moment is hilariously weird.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 19:35 (fifteen years ago)

L&O used to be really good about dropping weird incursions from the characters' personal lives into the middle of the show, just sorta suggesting this whole non-work sphere it wasn't touching. (There was one great point where Bratt stepped away for a second to hear about his wife's medical test results, written in there like everyone but you, the viewer, knew what was going on.) That sorta ... fell apart, after a while. It's especially bad when they try to do it on SVU or something, where they've already delved plenty far into everyone's personal life.

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

SVU has sometimes become more about Benson and Stabler's personal issues than it does about a case, which annoys. I'd rather have more baby gibbons stuffed into basketballs.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 19:51 (fifteen years ago)

i still cannot believe i didn't see that. LITERALLY kicking myself.

goole, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

the lesbian moment was hilarious -- really came out of nowhere (it was never explicitly stated before) and it was such an obvious sweeps rating ploy

Nhex, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

I could see Rohm maybe being attracted to other planks of wood, but not women.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

"Is it because I'm lignosexual?"

as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap (HI DERE), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

nabisco, perhaps my all time favorite episode is all about the personal lives & relationships of the characters -- i forget who was the ada (kincaid?) but everyone goes to witness an execution & then takes the day off. it was really endearing tbh.

lenny briscoe probably has the most personal revelation throughout the show, what with his daughter and all.

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:24 (fifteen years ago)

anybody who doesn't vote claire kincaid needs to take a good hard look at himself, and ask, "why am I not voting for claire kincaid when J0hn told me, specifically, that that was who I had to vote for?"

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:27 (fifteen years ago)

hahaha dude unless we've been invaded by conifers I don't think you really have to worry

as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap (HI DERE), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:28 (fifteen years ago)

robinette is underrated tho as somebody said upthread & when he came back as a politically radicalized defense attorney that was a great storyline, I wish they'd have made him a regular

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:29 (fifteen years ago)

voted for claire kincaid btw, especially for when she showed up in her off-duty leather jacket & jeans

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

SVU has sometimes become more about Benson and Stabler's personal issues than it does about a case, which annoys.

So true. And yet, when it's about Goren, I'm all MORE PLZ.

tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

lenny briscoe probably has the most personal revelation throughout the show, what with his daughter and all.

it's tru... but the thing is, this stuff was doled out so sparingly over seasons that when it did happen it was like a bomb going off. i think this gets compressed and sitcom-ized in the tnt/usa rerun 4 a day regime

goole, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

my fave ep (no idea what season) was an attempt to cut against the supercop/superlawyer stuff with a 'world's worst day' thing, like 4 difft murders pile up and it's really chaotic and the suspects are all bizarre and the lawyers are busy and get nowhere and nothing really pans out, the end

goole, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

DICK WOLF

goole, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

the other thing in Kincaid's favor is the Death of Claire Kincaid episode is pretty much the series peak

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

i'm sticking to my carey lowell vote

(though yeah the death of kincaid is pretty excellent - actually, wasn't it the same episode mentioned above where everybody takes the day off after watching an execution?)

Nhex, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 21:32 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah, i forgot that was part of the episode! she drove lenny home because he was drunk & got smashed up by a drunk driver

rip claire

I've watched this show from the first season, and I still love Rohmbot the most. Don't understand why she's so hated.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 31 October 2009 00:22 (fifteen years ago)

don't know if she's my favorite, but yeah

am I off-base in detecting a split between (a) loving early L&O and wanting to conceive of it as an actually sharp show, and (b) loving later L&O + spinoffs and enjoying some layer of formalism and camp in it?

(I ask because the appeal of Rohm, to me, is that she functions really perfectly right on that line between following the show earnestly and sorta chuckling delightedly at its conventions)

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Saturday, 31 October 2009 00:30 (fifteen years ago)

The one with the mentalist message board posters tonight was funny.

Otter madness (Nicole), Saturday, 31 October 2009 01:02 (fifteen years ago)

Rohm to me was the most utilitarian player and least distracting assistant da over the show's run (I fell out of the habit of watching during Alexandra's tenure, so I can't speak to her style). I like Claire and Jamie and Connie too, but more as personalities than as working characters.

Do they ever air repeats from the earliest seasons anymore? I haven't seen an episode with Paul and Ben Stone in it for years!

Fake-ILX ??

tokyo rosemary, Saturday, 31 October 2009 01:47 (fifteen years ago)

Jacqueline Hennessy (born November 25, 1968 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian journalist, television host, and occasional actress. She is the identical twin sister of actress Jill Hennessy. Hennessy is of Irish, Italian, Swedish, French, and Ukrainian descent. She has a doctorate in French Literature.

Hennessy currently hosts the current affairs program Medical Intelligence for Rogers Cable in Toronto, Ontario. She also serves as associate editor of Chatelaine magazine. Hennessy has won several awards for her work, including the Canadian Nurses Association Award of Merit (recognizing health care reporting) and the Canadian Journalism Federation Greg Clark Award.

Prior to becoming a journalist, Hennessy dabbled in acting alongside her sister. In 1988 the two appeared as twin call girls in the David Cronenberg film, Dead Ringers. They also co-starred in a film written and co-directed by her sister entitled The Acting Class.

One of Hennessy's most visible performances was uncredited. In 1995, Jill Hennessy, who played Claire Kincaid on the NBC crime drama Law & Order, made a couple of crossover appearances as Kincaid on another series, Homicide: Life on the Street. During the filming of one of these crossovers, the production schedules of both shows overlapped. As a result, Jacqueline was recruited to play Kincaid in some courtroom scenes filmed for the Law & Order episode "Corpus Delicti," which aired in January 1996.

Fake-ILX ??

It was a vigilante website but it did remind me of ilx a bit. And a faux-American Apparel subplot!

Otter madness (Nicole), Saturday, 31 October 2009 01:59 (fifteen years ago)

Voted Clair Kincaid. Hennessy had some of her best scenes in what is still my single favourite episode - the one with James Smith, brilliant (though schizophrenic) non-practicing lawyer when properly medicated, disheveled sword-wielding homeless maniac when not. Personally, I disliked that last episode of hers, but that was always the most polarizing ep on the old L&O boards.

I gave up on the show for good halfway through Rohm's tenure (a lesbian??) and have no idea who those last two are.

sad thing is this show will never end so i'll never get to see any reruns to learn what the big deal is about claire kincaid

sonderangerbot, Sunday, 1 November 2009 02:56 (fifteen years ago)

it probably speaks more to the age of the posters here than anything else
