this one doesn't look (from trailers) to be as obviously well crafted as BoB was, but the names on the top of the credits suggest otherwise (of course). I mean, no way SS and TH will do a half-assed job but it looks slight compared to previous efforts.

the BoB trailers looked kinda lame iirc, i'm kinda feeling like this will be pretty dope.

So, my buddy sent me an email about this yesterday, and the subject line said "The Latest from D-Day Hanks and Steven Normandyberg..."
I lol'd.

Saw the first ep today. Wow. I'd read a few complaints that 'oh it's not as good as Band of Brothers', 'I can't tell who anyone is, am not connected to the characters as much'...I don't see that at all. Band of Brothers was the same for me in the first episode as this was...figuring out who everyone is, and for a while they're all just guys in helmets til the personality starts to come through. Plus I can't even tell you how many times I've watched BoB? Of course there's a stronger connection. So far that doesn't seem to fly as a criticism of the Pacific. Early days, but that's just my take.
Generally speaking, it has those hallmark unspoken moments between characters that BoB had, captures the confusion of combat, and definitely captures the general 'otherness' of fighting in the Pacific...the feeling that they may as well have been on another planet, ie everything you know is wrong.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 21 March 2010 21:03 (fifteen years ago)
second episode in and only getting better. i was super hyped by the end of this one. by now you know who most of the key characters are and can't wait to see the rest of their story. this is totally going to be good
― Aerosol, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:27 (fifteen years ago)
Good. I was disappointed by the lack of a Captain/Major Winters character (as in BoB) to tie things together in the debut. We only had the machine gunner who shifted positions at Alligator Creek to root for, and that's not enough.

I looked at the associated book and thought it was a bit US-centric, but then a book that was less so contain a lot of chapters about people being stationed on islands and then all being killed.
― The New Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 16:18 (fifteen years ago)
Looks good so far, very brutal, great action scenes, nice dynamics between characters. Don't agree with the UK ads calling it 'the television event of the year' tho, CLEARLY they have forgotten about upcoming Treme and Boardwalk Empire.
