JF otm though. though I definitely applaud those who counter protest their protests when they protest things like funerals, because those can bring anguish to the families, WBC is definitely a group that has few supporters, so the constant 'lashouts' on social media etc are exactly what they're looking for, and they feed off of the attention.

I highly doubt anybody was suggesting that their message isn't harmful (though while I would definitely acknowledge these people extend beyond the Phelps, I would argue that you overestimate the population of the "god hates fags" crew). just putting their presence in perspective. going to a WBC protest and counter-protesting has value, in that it also provides some comfort to the grieving families or whichever group they're protesting. making noise on social media seems rather pointless.

Stories from his excommunicated/fled kids (Nate, I think?) put it a bit differently, saying that he saw civil rights legislation as nothing more than a litigation goldmine and referred to his clients with racist slurs at home. He might have gotten some good, important work done in the process, but there are enough trustworthy accounts out there for me to believe he's always been a piece of shit.
