― Elder Nguyen Seth (los blue jeans), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 01:48 (sixteen years ago)
I mean this is like bad fan fiction or something. Any why does the camera keep bouncing around?
― Elder Nguyen Seth (los blue jeans), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 01:56 (sixteen years ago)
i heard this is about how obama is an alien
― Bobby Wo (max), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 01:59 (sixteen years ago)
argh, abc really needs to take its character building dialogue direction more from Lost and less from Grey's Anatomy
still, this is my own lizard brain but i can't take my eyes off baccarin
― Nhex, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 02:08 (sixteen years ago)
do they have quirky music playing constantly throughout all the domestic scenes?
― jØrdån (omar little), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 02:10 (sixteen years ago)
A bit on the obvious and clunky side, but I smiled enough to watch next week.
― tie me up, dress in drag, and read to me from the bible (kenan), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)
^agreed. plus enough familiar faces from various other shows to keep me clinging. tudyk! even gretsch!
not music, but people saying incredibly lame, cliched and unrealistic things all the time while making super intense eye contact. at least it doesn't have the 'and here's some MORE exposition!' problems that FlashForward has, but they both seem to being going on the wrong track with their dialogue, seriously, i don't get it. i mean, it's not like Lost was particularly realistic, but it just seemed much better at this from the getgo.
i just rolled my eyes when Juliet flirts with her partner at some point, "do you know, you sound sexy when you're _____". Also, Scott Wolf is a terrible actor, especially next to someone who actually has as much natural charisma as Baccarin.
― Nhex, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 02:19 (sixteen years ago)
I mean, yeah, it's a little silly and overly glossy, but I am sad to say that I was completely riveted. :(
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 05:37 (sixteen years ago)
amazing how well you can paper over bad dialogue with alan tudyk and morena baccarin.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:03 (sixteen years ago)
this was pretty shitty.
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:04 (sixteen years ago)
can't argue with that, but will be watching next week.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:05 (sixteen years ago)
this was okay. i was a big fan of the original. except for maybe robert englund's nerdy alien character. don't know if they will include a new nerd yet.

I stopped watching it halfway through, an annoying telemarketer called in the middle of this and by the time I was off the phone I wasn't interested enough to try figure out what I had missed.

i made it through the whole episode without completely losing interest, but yeah, not terribly promising huh. never saw the original, i assume the whole lol "the aliens are using viral marketing!" part is new.

― sexual alien v. sexual predator (m bison), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 20:49 (sixteen years ago)
Kenan, quite the opposite, I was interpreting as pro-Dem bias trying to simplify the right as stereotypical tropes. Even the anti-V meeting was presented as survivalist nutjobs, until the 'bigot must restrain his racism' bit when the leader and the black guy are outside after the attack.
― I thought I could make it work because you look a bit like a man (aldo), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 20:54 (sixteen years ago)
^ Part of why I'm tuning in next week.
― tie me up, dress in drag, and read to me from the bible (kenan), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 20:56 (sixteen years ago)
honestly the show was such a muddle of mixed metaphors, meaningless symbolism and stock sci-fi distortions of how the world actually works that i really didn't get any kind of political statement or subtext out of it
― some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 20:58 (sixteen years ago)

What's sad is that when I was watching this when Scott Wolf was on all I could think about is how come there aren't any Party of Five reruns on anywhere? It's not like it was quality television, but it was a guilty pleasure of mine.
― ô_o (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 21:12 (sixteen years ago)
Did Party of Five have all kinds of pop trax in it that would be expensive to pay for now? (See also WKRP)? I would watch 4-5 hours of syndicated Po5 tbh, if only to lol at my younger self...
Tudyk and nostalgia the only things tempting me to watch new V.
― Durian Durian (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 23:08 (sixteen years ago)

I think that probably is the case, they had lots of mid nineties hootie-type music.

truth be told i thought this was ok. a bit perfunctory and way too fast-moving, but otherwise i don't get some of the outright hostility directed at it. it's got me interested enough to watch it next week.
― la'bloom generation (latebloomer), Thursday, 5 November 2009 04:25 (sixteen years ago)
The after-show response to the second episode of this was exactly as it should have been.
This show is straight-up stupid. Let's not count the ways. Let's just forget this ever happened.
― tie me up, dress in drag, and read to me from the bible (kenan), Thursday, 12 November 2009 19:41 (sixteen years ago)

― some dude, Thursday, 12 November 2009 19:43 (sixteen years ago)
I didn't watch last night, did it get even more "Obama is secretly a lizard who wants to eat you" than the first episode?
― a Barbie-like nub where he provates should be (HI DERE), Thursday, 12 November 2009 19:43 (sixteen years ago)
It was boring.
I don't think I'm going to make it through the four episodes.
SPOILERRRRR when Tudyk uploaded onto the ship, in the same episode they introduced Tori from BSG, I lost interest.
― windy = white, carl = black (polyphonic), Thursday, 12 November 2009 19:49 (sixteen years ago)
No, it just ceased to make any sense at all. Like, let me get this straight... they are super-intelligent space travelers, who have been infiltrating our government for decades in disguise as part of a plot to master and exterminate humanity, and this is the first time, the FIRST TIME EVER, they have encountered a reporter. That one thing, they have no grasp of.
Fuck you, television.

so basically the secret to defeating them is the fact that they're fucking stupid, that's what you're telling me?
No, tat's the key to defeating the writers of the show, should they try to invade. They won't get far. So many things made no sense whatsoever. It's plotted for commercial breaks, not narrative. It's bad. It stinks up the place, honestly.
― tie me up, dress in drag, and read to me from the bible (kenan), Thursday, 12 November 2009 19:54 (sixteen years ago)

― tie me up, dress in drag, and read to me from the bible (kenan), Thursday, 12 November 2009 19:56 (sixteen years ago)
amazed this got renewed for another season but i guess they were going to pick this or FF (which I would have preferred because Joseph Fiennes' performance is sort of transcendentally awful and entertaining)
don't know if it's merely incredibly dumb or totally goofy that they ripped the "fake Obama supporter attack on McCain volunteer" incident to fuel the storyline this past week. too bad the letter V is horizontally symmetrical!
― Nhex, Friday, 14 May 2010 22:04 (fifteen years ago)
FF definitely canned then? That'd be kind of a shame but also kind of a relief.
― JimD, Saturday, 15 May 2010 08:13 (fifteen years ago)
this show is so goofy.
