Directed by conceptual artist Sam Taylor-Wood, written by the guy who wrote the Ian Curtis biopic, Control, and scored by, er, Goldfrapp.

The kid who plays Macca looks like he does a good job. Not sure about Lennon yet, though I'm glad it isn't Ian Hart again.

Meanwhile, the director gets engaged to her lead actor http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8335453.stm

Why haven't they get a proper director?

This produces a big "meh" from me. Not sure if there's enough material to be mined here, really.

Myself, I'm holding out for the untold story of Lennon's toilet training.

is hiring ybas to direct movies a thing now?

plax (I know, right?), Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

I hope not. Not especially enthused by involvement of 'the guy who wrote Control' either.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:35 (sixteen years ago)

though I'm glad it isn't Ian Hart again.

I liked his performance in 'The Hours and Times' - the one set in Spain on a break with Brian Epstein.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind watching that again, tbh. It's been a while.

Haven't clicked on embed yet, but willing to bet that the banjo-playing redhead is John's mom Julia.

yba's have made all the art money there is to make, a future of vanity projects beckons.

but the film's title alone is enough to set off alarm bells.........

now opening in US. Not burning to see.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 10 October 2010 23:27 (fifteen years ago)

It's ok, very britflicky in its lacklustre ambitions. If I wasn't a Beatles fan I don't think I would have got much out of it. It's better than An Eduction.

I wish I could get, like, a fucking book that was just all about the Beatles...

It's billed as "The Extraordinary Untold Story Of John Lennon". It wasn't.

brilliant this. it pretty much only had to show up to impress me, being a big Fabs fan and all but it's properly great i think.

Watched this last night. Pretty awesome! Really enjoyed all the actors involved, and it seemed to handle it all with relative subtlety.

Those Brits and their damned subtlety.

undeservedly died at the box office. a better film than 'the king's speech' imo. could have done without the fingerbanging scene [via i went with my parents]
