Seinfeld surely?
― PC Thug (Ned Trifle II), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:41 (fifteen years ago)
Is Seinfeld actually any good? Would I like it? I've heard it's very mainstream, if influential.
― joekin' phoenix (country matters), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:42 (fifteen years ago)
i seriously have no idea what my #1 is going to be.

lj: you are britisher so you will not find it funny. i genuinely don't know one person who likes it, and that includes britisher ilxors in this theory.
― autogooner (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:45 (fifteen years ago)
I prefer it to the Simpsons
― I Poxy the Fule (Tom D.), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:45 (fifteen years ago)
to be brutally honest i've heard it's only a step or two up from Everybody Loves Raymond, which i saw on a plane once and immediately wished i'd unseen
― joekin' phoenix (country matters), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:46 (fifteen years ago)
I've always thought Seinfeld sucks because of my own allergy to slap-bass interludes between scenes. I can't get much past the horrible noise to appreciate the so-called comedy.
― fake plastic butts (suzy), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:46 (fifteen years ago)
But it's OK to like Curb Your Enthusiasm, I suppose?
― I Poxy the Fule (Tom D.), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:47 (fifteen years ago)
It will be my No.1 and I am British. It brings the lols even after how ever many year it is and numerous repeats.
― PC Thug (Ned Trifle II), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:47 (fifteen years ago)
Love Curb, never got Seinfeld. This seems to be a commonly held position amongst my countrymen.
― I am flesh and blood. You are software and circuitry. (chap), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:48 (fifteen years ago)
ok my bad, i just took the discussion on the ilx 2000s telly poll as britishers h8 seinfeld
― autogooner (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:48 (fifteen years ago)
Curb is awesome. Arrested Development is my favourite show ever. My voting in this poll will however be almost exclusively British, for understandable formative reasons.
― joekin' phoenix (country matters), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:48 (fifteen years ago)
I'm guessing there will be more of a UK presence than in the 00s poll. And more comedy.
― I am flesh and blood. You are software and circuitry. (chap), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

Did Seinfeld ever have any British characters in it? If not, this is why I boycotted it in the 90s.

"Enough with the shuddering" <---------- Seinfeld style yuks

assuming "The Cops" already nominated is something different
it most definitely is different altho it only just occurred to me some may think not. doubt it will make the list anyway but it was the first UK show to do 'fly on the wall' style camera view for fictional show iirc.
― modescalator (blueski), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 15:17 (fifteen years ago)
Seinfeld goes from good to really good to just fine to okay. I'd personally recommend season 4 to anyone who's on the fence, as it's the best-written of the seasons and actually hangs together as one long story (something they regrettably never really tried to do again).

I kiss whoever nominated Drop the Dead Donkey, as I was considering doing so but was scared off by a pretty negative ILX thread about it long ago + not actually having seen it since the 90s, and then I had to go to the world's longest meeting
can only hope youtubing it later is not as bad the time I youtubed Joking Apart, which I thought was hysterical aged 13, and found it a terrible laughs-free wasteland. it is possible that I just liked all sitcoms indiscriminately

didn't actually vote for DTDD in the end - it really fell off and got too mean in the end. KYTV will deserve better.

ok i've thrown together the 16 from the list i could bring myself to vote for- there was other stuff that i liked, but haven't seen nearly enough of to honestly vote for.
I had the opposite reaction to most of you - it was tough to actually find 25 that I *loved*.
this holds true for me too. having two terrestrial irish channels for most of the 90's didn't help, not to mention being 8 when the decade started.
― Louis Cll (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 November 2009 02:49 (fifteen years ago)

Got 39 ballots in so far. The score to beat for a top fifty place is 750, and 206 of the nominees have been voted for.
― Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Monday, 30 November 2009 18:27 (fifteen years ago)
My ballot breakdown: 2 Canadian/American productions, 1 show whose rotating cast and production staff was largely British but which isn't a British show per se, 1 show produced for American television but which featured a large percentage of British material during the time that I was its biggest fan, 1 Danish show (which should be pretty durn easy to guess from the list of nominees), and the rest American. What can I say: my horizons were relatively narrow in the '90s.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 30 November 2009 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

― emil.y, Tuesday, 1 December 2009 17:35 (fifteen years ago)
It occurs to me now that any chance Riget had of making it into a top slot is pretty much nil since most of the few people aware of its existence (including me, honestly...I totally missed it the first time I went through the nominees) are more familiar with the title The Kingdom.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 1 December 2009 17:37 (fifteen years ago)
That, plus the fact that it didn't score terribly high on my own ballot.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 1 December 2009 17:38 (fifteen years ago)
Well, if I am allowed to reconfigure my ballot, it will definitely be high up, which may be enough to get it a placing, even if not a top slot.
