movies you know you have seen, but remember (almost) nothing about

how odd is this phenomenon?

for instance: i know i saw lonely are the brave with kirk douglas, just five years ago. but all i remember from it is that it had a helicopter shot. i can't recall the plot, the other actors, nothing. what gives?

The Marriage of Maria Braun - I think she puts on panty hose or stockings in one scene, but that's all I can remember.

There are a lot of movies that I know I have seen but remember almost nothing about.

Had this recently with Trust, which I saw on tv in about 1996 and watched again on dvd a few weeks back - it might as well have been for the first time from all I remembered. Two things I *should* have kept in mind though:
1. Martin Donovan is A+++ in it.
2. So is the whole film.

good point. although perhaps you remember the occasion of seeing the movie? in my case i specifically remember seeing in some french newspaper that "lonely are the brave" was playing, buying my ticket at the action christine cinema off the rue des arts, and i even sort of have a vague memory of sitting there watching a helicopter shot in it. but other than that?nada.

When I think about this there's a ton of movies that I remember watching but recall nothing about. Les diner des cons is the most unremembered that springs to mind. I was gonna mention this terrible Nostradamus movie but I remember a comically bad sex scene and a severe lancing for the Dauphin so that won't count.
