This is the greatest programme on television, it is so fucking depressing. Give it up for passive aggression, unflattering lighting, crap food and a middleaged woman who has drank to much gin.

The voice over guy rules.

Watch the Bristol one with the lovely Dutch(?) girl making it snow and then watch the famous Preston ones.

Not the real Village People, Monday, 16 November 2009 21:54 (sixteen years ago)

I've seen this once, it featured some aspiring chef who butchered his own pigs and lived in a half-built studio, and a woman who put flowers in her salad. IIRC the pig-butcher won. It was quite entertaining. My best friend really ought to do this but he says he's holding out for Masterchef.

Hi i'm drunk, I though this said "Celine Dion With Me"

Without Curves, I would feel deflated. I like Curves. They are best. (Stevie D), Wednesday, 23 December 2009 06:47 (sixteen years ago)

Right now they're repeating one of my all-time favourite five-episode runs (for someone who doesn't watch a lot of telly, I seem to have seen way too many of these): the one in Northampton with William the Blunt Scot and Alex the Immensely Likeable Artist Dude. I should be working but fuck it, I'll watch a bit of this first ...

I glanced a trailer and it looked like David Gest had blacked up. I imagine this wasn't really the case.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Wednesday, 23 December 2009 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

I find Alex the artist dude intensly irritating and I think I would hate him if I met him in real life.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 23 December 2009 15:41 (sixteen years ago)

Aw. I find the combination of haplessness, enthusiasm and over-confidence quite endearing.

the preston come dine with me is the most jaw-droppingly hilarious thing i've seen all decade. it was on youtube, if it's still there it's essential viewing

NI, Thursday, 24 December 2009 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

Is that the one with Bernard and co? Yup: just jaw-dropping.

haha yes! bernard is the clear star of the show by virtue of being completely mental but the others are amazing in other ways - valerie holliday's awesome sayings, noveau rich lady having a spectacular breakdown, drag queen guy desperately trying to hold it all together while perky young guy looks on bewildered.

NI, Thursday, 27 May 2010 12:40 (fifteen years ago)

He's so desperate to be famous. It was embarrassing to watch.

not_goodwin, Thursday, 27 May 2010 13:00 (fifteen years ago)

i think he's a bit tapped. speaking of which how are YOU, stranger?

I've never really watched this before until a celeb one that was on a couple of weeks ago with Janice Dickinson terrifying the bejeezus out of everyone in her path, which was one of the funniest things I've seen on TV for years.

I'm now getting into watching the re-runs on Channel 4 of the "normal" people. Why on EARTH do people who don't like or know anything about food do this thing? (for those who have seen this before, it's the Croydon one, with a spectularly drunk and rude woman called Angelique)

ailsa, Thursday, 29 July 2010 16:17 (fifteen years ago)

Oh wait, she's not even the most annoying person. Hi dere Christian from Croydon who has never gets invited back to any friends' house if he's been round for food due to his constant criticism. What a total bellend. I love this programme, btw.

ailsa, Thursday, 29 July 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

Gotta say, this is a particularly good episode - Christian, as you say, is a monumental tool.

"the egg is too old; that's not a fresh egg"

He is demented...

Bill A, Thursday, 29 July 2010 16:51 (fifteen years ago)

haha, seriously, he is writing wrong things on a list and complaining that he doesn't have enough to complain about.

Has there ever been a week that someone hasn't wrapped some crap up in parma ham? I don't even know wtf it is, but it is in every weekly series along with Eton mess. Are British people the only Europeans to eat with upsidedown forks as well? I love hearing their teeth hit the metal :).
