its def worth going to see, julio, tho' i was hoping for a little more of that extraordinary colour test footage shown in the trailer above - cld prob watch 90 minutes of just that. a lot of the images reminded me of kenneth anger circa 'inauguration of the pleasure dome', or the abstract films of someone like norman mclaren. funny thing is, Inferno itself looks kinda trite - almost an old-fashioned comedy of manners w/ highly caricatured gestures and social relations. but of course we'll never really know for sure, and thats obv a big part of the appeal/fascination.

You guys should go see this if it ever comes your way: http://thefilmdesk.com/combat/Export1.htm. With Jean-Louis Trintignant and Romy Schneider in her first grown-up role, after all the Sissis.

When the lead actor dropped out of Inferno, Clouzot tried to get Trintignant to take over the role, but nothing come of it

This seems to be the only Clouzot thread - just watched his last movie, La Prisonniere, which had its issues but was pretty incredible overall. Definite Peeping Tom vibe - he must have seen it - and stylistically very much of a piece with other mid-60s art films like Blow Up. Amazing dream sequence at the end. Lining up La Verite to watch next.
