guys i almost never see any movies but lately i have been rewatching a load of my favourites instead of seeing new ones. I watched into the wild for the first time a couple days ago and it is fucking amazing imo.

Here r sum movies i like: Badlands, Happy Together, Marie Antoinette, Birth, Dazed and Confused, Effi Briest, Pierrot Le Fou, Safe, Motorcycle Diaries, Elephant
yeah so movies that r pretty and maybe sortof historical but that have nice clothes and not too much talking and hopefully an awesome soundtrack
also i like almost all lame movies abt painters lives like that pollock one

can i post here even though I'm hetero? Have you seen Love is the Devil - the Francis Bacon one?

sarahel, Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

Painters lives ... well, you should probably see Edvard Munch then.

Xiffy Pup (Eric H.), Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

Fur - the pseudo Diane Arbus biopic - is really pretty.

sarahel, Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

I also really like Portrait of Jennie, but only see if it you like golden age Hollywood-style filmmaking (albeit with a mystic undertone).

Xiffy Pup (Eric H.), Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

Barry Lyndon > Marie Antoinette imo, so if you haven't seen that, give it a try

Xiffy Pup (Eric H.), Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:45 (sixteen years ago)

Have you seen How to Draw a Bunny about Ray Johnston? Johnson? It's a documentary but it's pretty entertaining.

sarahel, Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:45 (sixteen years ago)

I want to see Fur! is it good, I fucking hate Diane Arbus but I'd prolly like this anyway!

plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:48 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i saw love is the devil and that is spot on exactly the kind of thing I am thinking abt

plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

Fur - It's surreal and retro-looking and very pretty to look at.

Love is the Devil - trying to remember whether the young boyfriend was super hot or just okay looking. Haven't watched it in a few years.

sarahel, Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:50 (sixteen years ago)

it doesn't have to b abt real life painters btw, even like romcomedys where 1 character is sposed 2 b a photographer r something i get really invested in whatevr the art dept threw 2gethr

plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:50 (sixteen years ago)

boyf was daniel craig, not superhot normally and not as hot as realy dyer but pretty hot anyway!

plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:51 (sixteen years ago)

the main character in CHUD is a photographer

that was Daniel Craig?

sarahel, Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:51 (sixteen years ago)

iirc

plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:52 (sixteen years ago)

i'm gonna have to watch it again.

Uh - Downtown 81 has a great soundtrack - the story is pretty cheesy - great campy Debbie Harry performance

LOL!!!

sarahel, Saturday, 21 November 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

this was prompted by me thnkng abt my ideal movie earlier today while @ work

it is a biopic of agnes martic focussing on her travels around the midwest during the 30's working as a teacher and with lots of shots of landscapes that anticipate her film gabriel and also the horizons of her paintings, agnes is played by maggie gyllenhaal maybe and soundtrack is half krauty new age muzick half sacred harp singing, v. little dialogue but maybe a moody voiceover that quotes the bible and Tao te ching

Wasn't going to recommend either. :)

Why, if i may ask, are you asking the homo film snobs and not the art snobs?

Xiffy Pup (Eric H.), Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

xp - that movie made me feel like a bad person.

sarahel, Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

doesn't HAVE to be abt painters haha!

plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

Well then in that case, watch every movie by Brian De Palma.

Xiffy Pup (Eric H.), Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

not high brow at all, but actually pretty funny - Bucket of Blood - about a would-be sculptor - 50s b-movie with laughable stereotypical beatniks

sarahel, Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

ikr i watched why does herr r run amok last week and i'm still thinking about it but i'm afraid most people would hate it. maybe you'd like it though. it's just very "me" :/

harbl, Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

harbl, Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)

harbl, Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 21 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

"Caravaggio"
"Edward II"
"The Tempest"
^ these are all Derek Jarman btw.

i have been back on Hitchcock again recently...do you like Fassbinder? "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul" is amazing, as is "Fox and His Friends."

And now my dick is where? Oh, this is too rich (the table is the table), Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

i've seen everything on my fassbinder box set except for mother kuster or something and i think i've seen all of jarman excpt for the super8s and wittgenstein, but i really wanna see that now cos i just read the blue notebook

plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:34 (sixteen years ago)

i meant them

plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:34 (sixteen years ago)

what about the Hitchcock? if you can, read Lee Edelman's "No Future: Queer Theory and the Death Drive," then watch The Birds, Strangers on a Train, and North by Northwest.

And now my dick is where? Oh, this is too rich (the table is the table), Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:35 (sixteen years ago)

xxp - Wittgenstein is interesting. The guy that plays Wittgenstein is kinda hot in a weird way, if i remember right.

sarahel, Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:35 (sixteen years ago)

Vincent And Theo, about Van Gogh and his brother. Directed by Robert Altman, starring Tim Roth as Vincent. Roth gives good crazy.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:47 (sixteen years ago)

I forgot - have you seen Prick Up Your Ears? The Joe Orton movie from about what 20 years ago?

sarahel, Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

Marie Antoinette IS like Jarman on a higher budget, perhaps that's why I dislike it so.

painter: Seraphine

ruder, funnier than many Fassbinders: Two Drifters

i liked marie antoinette, but a lot of what i liked was geeky stuff about french history, and particularly the way lots of people around her were trying to explain in very subtle ways that her behavior was out of line, to which she paid no attention.

the wittgenstein movie is on google video, i haven't seen it though..

yeah, whatever (daria-g), Friday, 27 November 2009 01:32 (sixteen years ago)

check out the Visconti movie "Ludwig"
