I honestly believe that the introduction of Robin the Boy Wonder is the only thematically logical way to close a Nolan Batman Trilogy.

I like Poison Ivy as some sort of eco-terrorist. Catwoman could work too, but isn't she just a thief? Seems like a bit of a downgrade in the villain dept.

Rumor says they are waiting until Arnold's out of office so he can reprise Monsieur Freeze

Just because someone makes shit up doesn't mean we need to start citing it as "rumor".

Joker redux.

Because in a way it's a great tribute to Ledger. It's audacious artistically. And because the worst thing about superhero movies is how they only feature the arch nemesis in one film (superman somewhat excepted).

I'll be really disappointed if they just move on with no mention of the Joker.

Can't remember where I spotted him first, but the image has been burned into my retina ever since. It all checks out though - how can something called 'topless robot' not be a reliable source?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 11:51 (sixteen years ago)

HOLY SHIT I THINK BATMAN'S GOING TO FIGHT THE LOVE-CHILD OF PRINCE AND FREDDIE MERCURY.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 24 November 2009 11:55 (sixteen years ago)

Catwoman could work too, but isn't she just a thief?

What sets her apart is that Batman wants to bone her. She's also sometimes been portrayed as having a sideline in avenging social injustices. I think she's the most obvious choice, maybe with the Riddler as secondary.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 12:55 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno how The Penguin could comfortably fit into Nolanworld without going down the outcast freak route that Burton already mined.

ohh right ok! "where did you see he might be in the film" is what i shouldve asked, sorry - i'd read that flamingo/batman issue already, hence my bewilderment.

despite the exciting flamboyance he's basically an (easily-dispatched) cipher for the joker anyway so meh.

no way they could do riddler without it seeming like a poor mans joker

311 is a joek (s1ocki), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 14:47 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, but what villain at this point isn't? Remember that Nolan won't use villains with "super-powers," as it detracts from the series more realistic feel. I assume that means no "Clayface"-type villains.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 24 November 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

(I guess you could say Catwoman. I just don't like her as a villain.)

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 24 November 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

no way they could do riddler without it seeming like a poor mans joker

Could be a very rich, very smart, very bored guy who sets up these elaborate crimes purely for his own amusement - kind of like Bruce might have been if his folks hadn't been killed. He probably couldn't carry a movie, but might make an alright side villain.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 14:51 (sixteen years ago)

Dr Hugo Strange would work very well if they used his appearance in "Prey" (the early Legends of the Dark Knight story by Doug Moench and Paul Gulacy) as the basis for his role in the film.

Deadshot might work well as a gunman hired to take down Batman.

I feel there's a pretty strong chance that Catwoman will end up in the film, whether that's a good idea or not.

Duane Barry, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

Joker will be the main villain, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Catwoman will be secondary villain / love interest.

― exploding angel vagina (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, November 24, 2009 4:11 AM

So far this sounds like the least bad idea. (The less of Catwoman the better.)

Bob Saget's "Night Moves": C or D (WmC), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

I'd say the most likely scenario is the Riddler, but off-screen most of the movie in a Zodiac/Seven kind of way...with Catwoman being the lesser foil who takes up most of the screen time.

ryan, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

Gimme That Christian Side-hug, that Christian Side-hug (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 22:09 (sixteen years ago)

doing the joker again would be such a mistake

311 is a joek (s1ocki), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 22:13 (sixteen years ago)

i actually dont think it would be that terrible, though it does sound bad. I think, given Nolan's tendencies, the Riddler could be a really interesting character for him to write.

ryan, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

Clayface has the most to offer from a psychological/character POV ... but he's not a marquee villain. all the remaining big name villains are either too ridiculous or have superpowers. Nolan's kinda gotten himself into a corner here. The studio pressure to make another mvie must be insane, but frankly, he might be better off just not doing it.

Gimme That Christian Side-hug, that Christian Side-hug (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 22:18 (sixteen years ago)

I think much more important than the villain, is that Bale stop doing that fucking annoying growly voice.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 22:54 (sixteen years ago)

what about the umm mutants from Dark Knight Returns? They were called mutants, right? I can kinda see Nolan doing something with that.

before they even think about the next villain they need to i) recast batman, ii) wrestle control away from nolan and let grant morrison write it

i am personally opposed to catwoman because michelle pfeifer clad in patent leather was such a formative experience for me as a child, my mind would reject any new catwoman immediately~

farting irl (cankles), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 05:52 (sixteen years ago)

Isn't it pretty much a given that Two-Face will be in the next Nolan-delivered Batman? Of course Joker's still breathing, but after Keith Lodger, they not goin' there. As they should not by the way. If Grant Morrison writes, it would be cool. Even cooler would be enlisting Paul Pope as screenwriter with Damien Hirst or Richard Prince as production design. Then the villian could be Flamingo to the gills.

Lamp, Wednesday, 25 November 2009 06:32 (sixteen years ago)

The problem with not bringing back the Joker is that DK works so hard to set it up.

I really wonder if the wrong/slapped together vibe I get when watching the ending is because they were going to have some sort of Joker related twist at the end but ditched it when Ledger died. The rumor my geekiest friend dug up was that it was supposed to reveal that all along Ledger wasn't the REAL Joker.

Even if he lived, I'm not sure it would have been healthy for Ledger to go through with it again. Replacing him makes sense.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 25 November 2009 06:42 (sixteen years ago)

they could just have a scene that explains "oh the joker he died of hepatitis some years ago now, rip" and then move on the dark moral fable of how batman got addicted to rx painkillers after bane broke his back

farting irl (cankles), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 07:06 (sixteen years ago)

It would be interesting to spin Batman franchise by casting Michael Keaton as the superbadguy for a movie.

The Perfect Weapon 2, Wednesday, 25 November 2009 07:13 (sixteen years ago)

I think it would be cooler if they'd just embrace the whole DC universe and cast Keaton as the older Earth-2 Batman. But that wouldn't fit Nolan's boring "realist" scheme, would it?
