Lego, duh (though not as a countable noun obv).

Madchen, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 07:28 (fifteen years ago)

no Construx no cred

9. WDYLL (Feat. Nice & Smooth) (los blue jeans), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 07:29 (fifteen years ago)

legos will win for being classic, but k'nex are underrated imo

erector set denied btw

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 9 December 2009 07:31 (fifteen years ago)

Two different kinds of toys for two different kinds of building.

I mean, you might as well throw Capsela on this list, too

kingfish, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 07:36 (fifteen years ago)

Lego ftw.

My son bought a Meccano set last week. Lots of tiny wee screws and fiddly bits, total pain in the arse to put together but nice models.

My other son has Lego and Bendaroos on his Christmas list - no idea if Bendaroos are any good but the new Lego Games series is nice (you build a board game before playing it, giving it more of a life than the standard kits).

Playmobil. Fuck the rest

Nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 09:27 (fifteen years ago)

^^ crazy talk, not even in the same toy genre!

this, on the other hand:

no Construx no cred

these were a legitimate competitor for my playtime when I was 6-7 years old.

President Danny Glover (Millsner), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 11:20 (fifteen years ago)

Lego, clearly. Although this appears to be where that misplaced American S that should be on the end of 'maths' turned up.

K'NEX v. Logos

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 12:00 (fifteen years ago)

legos. i saw tinkertoys in a store yesterday, that was some old timey crystal radio shit there.

my kid was obsessed with bendaroos for weeks before obtaining them. they occupied about 10 minutes of his attention upon playing with them.

bitter about emo (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 13:42 (fifteen years ago)

millsner, i was kidding. never really into building, i lack the skillzors. :-)

Nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:30 (fifteen years ago)

Aren't Benderoos just expensive pipe cleaners?

HUH? not appropriate (snoball), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:37 (fifteen years ago)

is anyone actually going to vote k'nex

max, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 15:12 (fifteen years ago)

Capsela was awesome but mad expensive IIRC

Udon Nomi (Stevie D), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

anyone remember tente?

spanish, lego-ish blocks that were a bit more fiddly than the real thing. some nice parts for making vehicles. i had a few when i was younger, but never enough to make anything really impressive.

President Danny Glover (Millsner), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

The spaced themed Tente sets were available in the UK in the 80's, but they took third place after Megablox.

Also, voted Lego b/c of their supreme design skills, and I still want this shirt:

I had about 5 or 6 Tente blocks mixed in with my bucket of Legos and I was always frustrated that they weren't compatible with anything else.

9. WDYLL (Feat. Nice & Smooth) (los blue jeans), Thursday, 10 December 2009 02:23 (fifteen years ago)

if you don't vote for lego in this you are either a retard or a contrarian ass motherfucker

I had those, too! Holy shit, completely forgot about them.

I had a problem with some of the connecting teeth breaking from fatigue.

President Danny Glover (Millsner), Saturday, 12 December 2009 09:55 (fifteen years ago)

(xxpost) Sticklebricks are crap - the fingers always break off, you only ever see them in playgroups, then they have dried matter stuck on them, just totally gross and bleurgh.

^^^ I remember that the TV ads were offputtingly macho.
Robotix was in a similar macho sensibility. More like Shitbotix actually, as the parts were held together by friction, and eventually wouldn't stay together.

been playing with mega bloks this afternoon, with my godson. He was only really interesting in the large bag they came in, whereas I decided to make the tallest tower known to man

(xpost) but think about how much Lego you could buy for $500.

HUH? not appropriate (snoball), Saturday, 12 December 2009 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

dumb q: can you buy generic lego sets? or is it all spaceships and stuff now?

being being kiss-ass fake nice (gbx), Saturday, 12 December 2009 19:34 (fifteen years ago)

You can still buy them, but only online or from a very large toy store.

HUH? not appropriate (snoball), Saturday, 12 December 2009 19:42 (fifteen years ago)

I loved Construx because it had all those glow-in-the-dark pieces and sets that looked like weird
space modules

We were also really into Omagles. Had furniture built out of them. Also made forts and pretend boats (for simulating Indiana Jones)

generic lego are best purchased either thru bulk on ebay or craigslist or stuff like Bricklink.

CL ads have stuff like:

62 lbs of legos - 2 big contaiers - $275 (vancouver, wa)

I have 2 big plastic totes full of lego's. I weighed them at 62 lbs total. There could be a few mega blocks in them, but is certainly mostly lego.

There are quite a few nice sets that I bought the kids over the years, but they are not seperated into sets now.
