^_^ (_² ÷_X +_- (Lamp), Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:40 (sixteen years ago)

although it might be improved with the substitution of teddy grahams

Pack up this whimsical snack mix anytime you need a cheesy snack-to-go—it’s not just for fishin’!

afa the i can c (roxymuzak), Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

These are only the salty mixes, btw. There are like 30 other recipes on the site for sweet mixes.

afa the i can c (roxymuzak), Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

i am a fan of muddy buddies, but i think normal grown-ups find them vile

horseshoe, Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

I was considering inventing some kind of like guacamole chex mix. Or like a v. fancy one with grated Manchego on it and stuff.

afa the i can c (roxymuzak), Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

i think i might like sweet better than salt (keeping wanting to add peanut m+ms) but roasted sesame sounds p good too

^_^ (_² ÷_X +_- (Lamp), Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)

Was puppy chow in my Lutheran school. Lutherans most disgusting etc.

ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:53 (sixteen years ago)

We called it puppy chow in Wisconsin. How is that grosser than implying that it's made with mud?

lindseykai, Sunday, 13 December 2009 23:00 (sixteen years ago)

it's not, i guess, but muddy buddies rhymes

harbl, Sunday, 13 December 2009 23:24 (sixteen years ago)

Cheesy Ranch and Goin' Fishin' seem awfully similar.

You should use the pretzel fish AND the regular goldfish.

tokyo rosemary, Sunday, 13 December 2009 23:31 (sixteen years ago)

we have these things in east tennessee, and i am not sure if they exist elsewhere, but they are treats called mud pies. in loudon county they call these cow pies, implying that they are made of shit. i had a loudonese friend actually complain to me once about the "mud pie" moniker. \(o_O)/

We had "people puppy chow" at my dad's this weekend and my brother's new gf from central IL informed us that it is called "white trash mix" around her town.

These Chex Mixes suck. They will make you thirsty. I'll try the Golden Grahams, I guess if none of these have chocolate chex in them.

US EEL (u s steel), Tuesday, 15 December 2009 00:27 (sixteen years ago)

Timely thread - last weekend I made the Buffalo Chex mix (winner of the recipe contest).

http://www.chex.com/Recipes/Sweeps/default.aspx

Except I left out the celery seeds, and I just used the regular cheddar goldfish instead of Parmesan-flavored. I used habanero hot sauce, but I reduced the quantity a bit, so it wouldn't be too hot. I also added a bit of chili powder and mustard powder. It went pretty fast.

microwave cooking a chex mix seems wrong

Apparently all the Chex-Mix recipes on the site are being retooled so they can be made in the microwave. I'm a bit old-fashioned though, so I made mine in the oven.

o. nate, Thursday, 17 December 2009 21:16 (sixteen years ago)

The brand - through General Mills' Betty Crocker Kitchens - has in the last year simplified for the microwave about 25 of the more than 70 Chex recipes on its Web site, including the popular Muddy Buddies, where cereal is coated with peanut butter and chocolate.

In a current television spot, a hostess at a gathering removes a bowl of the mix from a microwave as a voiceover intones, "Why spend all your time in the kitchen when you can actually party at your party with homemade Chex Party Mix?"
