Tim And Eric. I'm still baffled that other people seem to enjoy it, as it seems to be specially formulated for the most absurd recesses of my sense of humor (i.e. stuff that should not be funny to anyone but me because it doesn't seem in any way to be actively, objectively funny).

I guess 'not actively, objectively funny' describes, like, 95% of the stuff on Adult Swim, though. They're all niche programs for people with different strange senses of humor (which may or may not be induced by different levels/types of intoxication).

Which is also to say: I don't get high, so I don't get 95% of the stuff on Adult Swim.

Also: loved Cartoon Planet, liked Home Movies pretty okay, found Perfect Hair Forever strangely hilarious when my brothers and I stumbled upon it while getting drunk on eggnog two Christmases ago (despite not knowing jack squat about anime and thusly probably not getting most of the jokes). Slowly giving Metalocalypse and Venture Bros. a shot, but not really sold yet. ATHF is fleetingly funny in the way that anything is when you constantly throw shit at the wall to see what sticks. It's like the animated version of watching random improv troupes. And fucking Xavier gave me fucking seizures and a fucking brain tumor. I don't know if that's good or bad.

Home Movies is the best, but as above for when I first saw Xavier. It has SOMTHING amazing abt it, which I couldn't say for ATHF

Boondocks is the one I watched the most when I had the cable. Best characters & animation. It did not make me laugh as much as Space Ghost did when I was 13 but OTOH I was 13.

I have a feeling that most people fail to distinguish Space Ghost from Cartoon Planet. Since they are in many ways the same show, aside from the presence/absence of celebrity interviews/Brak. SG was okay, but I feel like most of the really funny stuff featuring the SG cast was actually featured on Cartoon Planet.

moral orel is on some real deal nihilism-disguised-as-comedy trip that i feel separates it from the rest somehow.

there are some "cartoon planet" bits that still make me lol from memory, though.

home movies, but i have fond memories of the first season or two of most of these (space ghost/cartoon planet [don't really know the diff, sorry], sealab, aqua teen, harvey birdman).

i'm not usually in a mood to watch tim & eric but it can be pretty next level at times.

I like that the Sealab folks took what they learned from there and created a series with a very similar feel with the added bonus of a running narrative in Frisky Dingo.

I like the interviews on Space Ghost more than Brak on Cartoon Planet. Brak's okay, but Space Ghost CtC was - at its best - genius.

sealab was pretty great until harry whatshisname died, after which it just feels like that awkward newsradio post hartman vibe where you can tell the writers and cast are kinda bummed out and not feeling it.

Hint: Cartoon Planet is the one that is criminally unavailable on DVD. Also, it had lots of songs.

i liked Boondocks alright as a comic but the show is pretty iffy imo, Regina King's voices (ok, voice) for the kids is terrible and ruins it for me.

Like seriously, if you had asked me what the funniest thing in the world would be to a Southern-raised debutante-leaning woman with an Ivy League education, my answer would have been nowhere near "a talking ass that indiscriminately shoots people with a revolver" and I would have lost big on Final Jeopardy.

There's also "lol he a butt and he drinking from a straw". And so forth.

Superjail deserves at least some sort of mention. i mean, it's not particularly funny and almost all of the characters are irritating, but the animation is gnarly and 90% of the show is just rapid-fire complete bloody carnage. i've got a weird kind of respect for it.

kind of agree with that, almost wish they'd run that show without a script. it's just dumb, but it has the kind of manic energy that you'd expect from a damaged eight year old

I loved the bump sequence that was all "which has more deaths, Metalocalypse or Superjail" because I was sitting there thinking "... has the person who asked this ever actually SEEN Superjail?????"

I'm sad that there seem to be a lot of AS shows I havent seen - I dont have cable (do we get AS on foxtel, mongrels?) so I've had to rely on youtube and dvds.

i used to love harvey birdman especially the first season or so, though i watched a random episode recently and it wasn't as funny as i remember. in fact most of these are pretty terrible in retrospect even though i loved them back in highschool.

space ghost and tim&eric both transcend most of the rest of these though not in the same way.

but it's also, as far as the jokes go, one of the most smartly-written TV shows I've ever seen, up there with arrested development & co.

I've watched a handful of venture brothers episodes and I still don't 'get' the show. I guess I should watch some more.

If you've sussed out that they are like Johnny Quest, but intentionally funny, you've pretty much got it already.

several xps: Metalocalypse had a terrible pilot (just confirmed this again seeing it a few weeks ago) which made me not want to give it a chance. But then I caught more and more of it and by the end of the first season I was totally hooked, it's hilarious - I guess it took them a few eps to get back to the Home Movies-style dialogue pacing. Still though, VB had to get my vote.

Tim & Eric's quality kinda fell off in the second season (haven't seen the third yet), but man that first season was gold.

Home Movies had the opposite progression of most of these shows - the first couple of seasons are ok, but the show got a lot better IMO in the later seasons (and also away from squigglevision, thankfully).

I used to have a Home Movies tee but I think it got lost at a friend's place
