Urgent and key discussion: let it commence.

Creepy but stripey... I like that hes a saboteur. He seems a bit retarded.

jeskam, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hamburglar nabbed on Intellectual property theft charges

N., Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it a new group? Or are we talking about the man who creeps into our Happy Meals while we're asleep?

PJ Miller, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

It's true about the retarded saboteur aspect.

Alan T / P Baran to thread?

New group? pfff (This is the Pinefox we're talkiing about)

Graham, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hamburglar I get

Mayor McCheese - though somewhat bizarre - I also get.

But what the hell is that Grimace thing???

C J, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Grimace explanation here (with curiously similar question)

N., Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

And Anthony complains that the intellectual content of this forum has been eroded?

Matt, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

And the intellectual property STOLEN.

Graham, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The Gosh Guys: "What the Fuck is Grimace?"

Kerry S., Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

This isn't true, but you'd be amazed at how many folks believe that it is, and it HAS affected the cost of the basses.

Colin Meeder, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my college friends told me this story once about calling up a McDonald's 1-800 line to get the scoop on what Grimace was. The representative who took the call (probably a high school kid on his summer job) could only muster: "Uh...I dunno...Grimace is a fat, purple fuck!"

Joe, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

When I said 'new group' I meant 'new Pinefox side project'. Sorry for not making that clearer earlier.

I believe Hamburglar has a couple of diminutive accomplices. I will go and sit in the kiddies section tomorrow to make sure.

PJ Miller, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic thread!

If any of you couldn't be arsed to click onto, as I believe the computer buffs say, N.'s link to 'Hamburglar nabbed on Intellectual property theft charges' I reproduce the following:

"We do not believe that the ordinary reasonable person, let alone a child, viewing these works will even notice that Pufnstuf is wearing a cummerbund while Mayor McCheese is wearing a diplomat's sash," the appeals court wrote.

Tim Bateman, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I never ate a hamburger until I was twelve.

I was talking to someone about the hamburglar just recently. mcdonald's advertisers don't utilise him enough no more.

RJG, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

McDonalds has dumped the hamburglar, the fry kids, grimace, and mayor mccheese like yesterday's garbage. It's super unfair. Ronald pops up once in a while, but he's scary and not in a big foam costume, so therefore sucks.

Mandee, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The original Grimace was actually the only truly threatening figure in McDonaldland and apparently was all scary and shit with like eight arms and got to be called "The Evil Grimace" - but look at him now! His evil grimace reduced to a goofy duh-huh grin and his eight arms are merely futile flipper stubs. Poor old Grimace.

Kim, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

>>> "so therefore sucks".

I love the redundancy.

Grimstitch = Grimace relative?

the pinefox, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

There was a girl in college who was known as Grimace. It wasn't very nice.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer Mr. Wimpy.

youn, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't there also a character for the Big Mac (that's "Le Big Mac" in French)? He was dressed as a cop, and bigger than Mayor McCheese... Pop Culture Analogy:
Rumble: Laserbeak: Mayor McCheese
Frenzy: Buzzsaw: ?Big Mac Guy

Joe, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

A-HA! It was "Officer Big Mac". Go to:

(3rd photo down)

Joe, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr Wimpy - the hip Beefeater. I've just spotted that huge satellite dish behind Mayor McMuffin. Have they put one of those electronic tagging devices on Hamburglar?

PJ Miller, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope. No relation at all pinefox. Just a happy co-inky dink.

I did however, once write a short story called "The Boy in Mayor McCheese" that was about a kid that was getting slightly too old to be playing in his local McDonald's Playland, yet was foolish enough to continue to do so despite that. One day he just barely squeezed himself through to get inside the big circular Mayor McCheese head in the centre of the Playland, this was the kind with a slide and bars all around it's sides so the children could look out, and as you can well imagine, the boy couldn't get out quite so easily as he got in. He became trapped inside Mayor McCheese. The rest of the story was eerily not unlike "Bubble Boy", as he grew up inside the head, had many adventures, and fell in love. I always pictured the giant Mayor McCheese head silhouetted on a sunset beach, the boy and his girl holding hands through the bars. A real tear-jerker. Easily my best story ever. Well that and the one about the Sequin Mines on planet BG- 79. But I'll save that for another day.

Kim, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

For some reason I think Nelly could make a really good Hamburglar song.

bnw, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I have never seen The Hamburglar in a McDonalds advert but on seeing him now he deeply deeply upsets me.

Graham, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The Fry Guys and Birdie, apparently. Courtesy of our firends over at Sinister Central. I bet Birdie was responsible for the mayonnaise.

PJ Miller, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

the pinefox, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The two OBVIOUS things which have gone unsaid:

1) 'Robble, robble' - connotes 'rob'??

2) How Mark S kickstarted this whole discussion the other night.

the pinefox, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

ok well the things *i* wd like discussed are

i. macdonalds anthropomorphism => cannibalism
ii. he is a burglar = we endorse theft

mark s, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you think of a better pun on hamburger, sinXor?

mark s, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

That's still sorta cannibalism.

bnw, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The fact that Mr Wimpy is a BEEFEATER cracks me up every time. And it's so delightfully British.

How about a picture of Mr Wimpy?

I too never ate a hamburger until I was 12. I went to McDonalds, ate a hamburger and watched ET for the first time, all on the same day.

Things are never that exciting these days.

I thought Evil Grimace only had 4 arms, for stealing shakes:

Sweet, the Mr Wimpy game posted above: that games co. really does take me back, and I have an idea I *really liked* that particular game.

the pinefox, Thursday, 15 May 2008 10:04 (seventeen years ago)

I think it was a Burgertime rip-off, that was a great game yes.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 15 May 2008 10:06 (seventeen years ago)

Hm ... Burger Time ... yes, that rings a bell too. Odd how some of the most basic games were so fun (if I am remembering aright). Chuckie Egg?
