(Jean-Amadou Tigana turned 47 on Sunday.)

Bossis'

options?

RJG, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bonne anniversaire, Maxime. I like to think that he & Didier Six send something rude and inappropriate in the mail to Schumacher each July 8th.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mike - did Six miss a pen?

the pinefox, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He went to Villa didn't he? and performed rather shockingly iirc.

I saw a mini-programme on Juste Fontaine the other night, very interesting, he had to retire from footie not long after scoring all those goals in the 58 (??) finals. Also interviewed was Kopa who I think played for Real Madrid as well as being the man who set up most of his international goals. I think they played against each other too in the European cup final where Real beat Rheims.

PF: Yes. Ettori saved first from Stielike, then Six and Bossis had their pens save by Der Schurke. Giresse, Amoros, Rocheteau and Platini scored; Kaltz, Breitner, Littbarski, Rummenige and Hrubesch (German for rubbish) for the Germans.

If only we'd had the Golden Goal in those days, they'd have a statue of Marius Tresor in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe by now. Perhaps they already do.

I often refer to rubbish things as 'Horst Hrubesch'. Well, not that often, but enough to make you all glad I don't live next door. I shall spend the weekend pondering whether this kind of thing is worth a spectacularly unpopular thread all of its own.

PJ Miller, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That makes me wish you *did* live next door.

'Rocket to the stars?' Road to hell.

the pinefox, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah you bastards you reopened The Wound, now I have to rethink that game in all its details. Actually not really, I already did that when I recently found my long lost 1982 World Cup Panini minicards book at my parents house. Ah the poetry of Genghini's freekick against Austria and all that.

Perhaps this is the place for me to express my desire for a HUGE POSTER of Platini holding Battiston's hand as he's stretchered off.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 10 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Joe, how about a large blown up version of this one:

How tender.

chris, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

... but I don't think that's Platini - is it? Looks a bit like Rocheteau to me.

the pinefox, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mmm, you could be right, my google powers are failing me.

chris, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Joe, how about this one, the angle's not the best but it features the scene you want:

God, that first photo is creepy, he looks dead. Still one of the great mysteries of the game: how was it possible that the ref didn't see The Foul (or his linesmen for that matter).

Sigh, Les Blues '82.

Omar, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I remember reading that he was looking elsewhere on the field at an off-the-ball incident. Thereby creating the biggest travesty in the history of the world cup.

five years pass...

Bonne Anniversaire, Cher Maxime!

the pinefox, Thursday, 26 June 2008 11:37 (seventeen years ago)

two years pass...

I can't believe that Jean-Amadou Tigana only won 52 caps and scored one international goal (clearly the smashing one vs Hungary).

Merci Maxime.

one year passes...

It will be Maxime Bossis's birthday on Friday.

But meanwhile, today is Jean-Amadou Tigana's!

And it's also ... Zinedine Zidane's !!!

Michel Platini's was Sunday.

It's astounding how this week is the golden week for French soccer.
