Acronym confusion

Like I know what qft means but my mind nonetheless reads it as 'quit fucking talking' every time, meaning I have a wee moment of shock before I remember it means almost the opposite.

Anyone else have a problem acronym?

When I saw 'ftw' for the first time I thought it meant 'fhat the wuck' – like, 'this is SO what the fuck it fell apart in bafflement & then got rearranged all wrong, THAT'S how what the fuck it is.' Which I found amusing & shortly after found was completely incorrect.

I thought FTW meant "fuck the world" for a long time, and I still accidentally revert back to that from time to time as i read it.

Oh, actually netforbeginners.about.com (my homepage btw) says "Years ago, "FTW" used to have a very negative meaning: "f**k the world". This was a term commonly used by social rebels, anarchists and anti-authoritarian types to express frustration with modern society. Gratefully, this antisocial meaning has dramatically faded in use in the 21st century, and people largely use "for the win" as the modern meaning for this acronym now."

I had a friend, James, in high school who had a speech impediment, and one of the few of us with a car. We were going to lunch one day at a burger joint, and one of the bigger jerks in the car started saying, "Hey James, order a weiner." And egged him on until James was finally like "Can I have a weinow?" The lady at the drive thru said to quit wasting her time and James shouted "FUCK THE WOWD!" as he drove away.

Fuck the wowd!

I genuinely thought this meant "quit fucking trolling" for a really long time.

I thought ftw only meant 'fuck the world' for the longest time, always kind of thought it was weird that people were saying this so often.

anyway, basically anytime I see an f in an acronym, I just assume it's for 'fuck' and then just work out something from the other letters so that the acronym makes sense.

I regret choosing this bland user name (peter in montreal), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

gonna start saying "fuck the win" now

It took me a while to figure out that RT = retweet. One of my early guesses was "ring toss."

one year passes...

I'd forgotten this:

Bart: Who are those pleasant old men?
Homer: It's BTO--they're Canada's answer to ELP. Their big hit was "TCB." That's how we talked in the '70s. We didn't have a moment to spare.
