Your favorite sports-related ovations

They can be for retiring or deceased players, farewells to venues, or just amazing moments in general.

Inspired by stumbling across this clip of the introduction of Maurice "The Rocket" Richard to the crowd at the last night the Canadiens played at the Montreal Forum, where he'd led the team to so many Stanley Cups:

That reminds me of the 8 minute standing ovation I got at my birthday party when I turned 11. Seriously though, it's weird how stuff like that brings a tear to my eye, even though I don't really know much about Maurice Richard or hockey in general.

I wouldn't be opposed to you posting Youtubes of those, either, if you have them.

Dunno if ^^^ counts as a fave, really, nor Cal taking a lap after breaking Gherig's record. Hockey is really the best @ this sort of thing

Can't find any specific clips (maybe his first tee-off would be the obvious one to search for) but any footage of Darren Clarke at the Ryder Cup after his wife died puts a lump in my throat.

^yes, that was unbelievable.

Even better than an ovation is any time fans carry a footballer off the pitch shoulder-high. Last time I remember this being done for sheer brilliance was Ryan Giggs at Villa Park in 1999.

hmmph beckham was better in that game iirc

I think it actually was Beckham, now you mention it - my memory playing tricks 'cause of, well, you know - sports personality of the year and all that

Cal Ripken when he broke Lou Gehrig's record was pretty cool.

Any and all ovations during the star spangled banner before Blackhawks game at the old Chicago stadium. Deafening.

cantona walking on the the pitch at ryan giggs's testimonial was an incredible moment.

this guy playing one more game in front of an arsenal crowd making the fans sing more for him than their own team was great to watch, wish i was there
