Anyone tried it? Chances I will are slim with Grimaldi's, Sal's, Sam's and Lucali's all in walking distance not to mention a bunch of other decent mom and pop places. Still curious though.

Yay another darker edgier reboot.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 January 2010 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

can't lie, I'm curious, but there's no doubt there'll be corn syrup in the sauce & probably in the crust, so fuck no

Lee Dorrian Gray (J0hn D.), Thursday, 14 January 2010 04:06 (sixteen years ago)

I don't think I've ate any Dominos pizza since the eighth grade, so why start now?

ô_o (Nicole), Thursday, 14 January 2010 04:09 (sixteen years ago)

i ate it without knowing it was gonna be new & different, and the only difference i noticed was that the crust definitely tasted like garlic powder. kind of a negative, i guess, but they surely must offer an option to have a different crust?

Joint Custody (ian), Thursday, 14 January 2010 04:12 (sixteen years ago)

my dining companion thought the sauce was spicier but i couldn't tell.

Joint Custody (ian), Thursday, 14 January 2010 04:12 (sixteen years ago)

The worst thing about Domino's pizza that pushed it over the line for me of being edible was the weirdly bready, artificial-tasting crust (as is noted in above video) - if they didn't fix that I don't see the point.

pithfork (Hurting 2), Thursday, 14 January 2010 04:14 (sixteen years ago)

did they stuff more stuff in the crust? like a whole other pizza inside the pizza crust?

i saw a dominos delivery guy today and there was nothing revamped about him or his boxes.

akm, Thursday, 14 January 2010 04:14 (sixteen years ago)

Their commercials always make me want to order pizza though. Goddamnit I'm hungry I need to fix myself something.

I worked at Domino's for five years, and just smelling that very distinct Domino's Pizza smell now makes me wanna barf. The only way I'd eat it now, regardless of recipe or ingredient changes, it if they changed their name.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 14 January 2010 04:27 (sixteen years ago)

Oh shit, when I delivered for Domino's we had a house very similar. The husband would stand in the corner and watch while you pleased the wife.

It's an interesting marketing angle: "You told us we suck and we admit it!" But yeah, I haven't ordered a Domino's since the early 80s, and this won't change that.

Little Caesar's disappeared from the area here, but is now back with a somewhat different presence. I think they specialize in those "ready to go" pizzas where you walk in, request pepperoni or whatever, and they immediately hand you a pizza.

mh, Thursday, 14 January 2010 19:33 (sixteen years ago)

unfortunately that pizza is a mushroom pizza and the crust is made out of saltines

living like the Na'vi will never happen (HI DERE), Thursday, 14 January 2010 19:33 (sixteen years ago)

Ugh, yeah.

My new house is about two blocks away from Papa John's, so I've shamefully ordered from there twice in the past month. We have a local chain (Northern Lights) that varies in quality but has a few specialty crust treatments and items (ok, they just coat the crust in asiago or something as an option, and they have 'scooby snacks' which are little pizza rolls) but their pizza can be pretty decent and is cheap.

But yeah, local places beat the hell out of a chain on the regular.

mh, Thursday, 14 January 2010 19:56 (sixteen years ago)

slathering some salty garlic powder compound on the crust wasn't what their pizza needed.

counterpoint: oh yes it was! mmmmmmm

Our neighborhood Domino's is awesome. They handwrite their own coupon flyers in English and Spanish and they look like notes from high school girls* when you find them on your front door. Aside from this, they offer ridiculously cheap specials for carryout.

Can we have a brief chat about regional differences in chain pizza menus? Dominos is a necessary evil/gross luxury in my world, roughly three times a year when my wife is away and I'm shitfaced. It's always disappointingly ordinary, but I'm fanatical about how ordinary it is. I even recorded myself doing an "unboxing"-style video last year:

https://vimeo.com/225707442

The most recent time, about three or four days ago, I really struggled to find anything to order. This is a company that hasn't moved on in the past 10 years, at least in Canada. Here's an excerpt screenshot of their menu:

http://imgur.com/a/GPtNt

Meanwhile, recently I somehow decided to look at the menu for Dominos Australia. It's full of comparatively inventive and modern pizzas. The design and functionality of the website is much better, everything about it is better. Here's an excerpt screenshot of their menu:

http://imgur.com/a/VMnH9

Why would Dominos be so different in Canada and in Australia? I can't believe that competition would be so much higher in AUS than it is here that they actually offer a broader and more interesting range of pizzas...

Dominos in Australia is complete garbage imo but they can churn stuff out and deliver it for a quarter to half the price of any local shop.
