btw to make my bias clear Gibson is officially the worst company i have ever had to deal with as a dealer, so anything bad that happens to them is OK by me.

Really enjoying the "THIS IS THE END OF QUALITY GUITARS DAMN YOU KIDS AND YOUR HIPPITY HOPPITY TECHNOPOP" spin on these stories in the middle of a golden age of luthiery.

Some good old boys at the factory decided to make a day of it instead of running them through a bandsaw.

crushing is too good for those hideous abominations

but why not donate?

Gibson says they weren't functional and were unsafe - which has a very small chance of being true, they required a special battery.

More likely, for the same reason other companies destroy unsold merchandise - accounting and tax write-offs and shit.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 1 August 2019 21:15 (six years ago)

I watched the other video (by Trogby, or something like that) and he said they were fine guitars. He didn't really know why they were crushed, but figured it was a tax accounting thing.

nickn, Thursday, 1 August 2019 21:25 (six years ago)

yeah the thing about them being nonfunctional/unsafe is complete horseshit battery or not

I do wonder about the self-tuning thing, if that really worked. If it actually made the guitars go out of tune that would be a deal breaker.

nickn, Friday, 2 August 2019 00:19 (six years ago)

They put it on all the guitars in 2015 - even the traditional Les Pauls etc. Widely hated, easily switched out to traditional tuners since the module unbolted in one piece. Supposedly worked quite well but most Gibson fans are intense traditionalists.

i don't think i knew until today that their nutcase ceo finally got axed when they filed for bankruptcy.
